Hey guys my buddy has a 1998 Lincoln Mark 8 32v with a spun bearing.

So anyways ive done a 302 to 351 swap multiple times. Is swapping in a 5.4 a straight forward swap? Whats required? Can the 32v Heads from the 4.6 be used on a 5.4 truck block? Anything crazy i should know about?? Is the motor taller or wider??? There a difference in width between the 4.6 intake and the 5.4?

Any advice would be much appreciated.
If theres any stickies from folks that have done this let me know.

Thanks in advance

Chris

Hi,
i've done it...
block is from a f-150, heads/intake/pcm from cobra 97
The engine is taller, so you will need a new hood.
You will need 4v headers
if you're using 96-98 cobra intake/heads, i can send you some pictures of my intake.
you can reuse your stock pcm BUT you must have it retuned/chipped.
You "can" use your stock wiring harness but you will need to extend some wires.

For the tranny, I still use my T45... but I don't know for how long...

everything else is pretty easy to swap.

I hope this will help you !

WOW thanks....Well im thinking of using the 32v Heads from the lincoln. Lincoln has one coil pack per cyl. I was wondering if that would work. the 98 uses the 32v "B" head. I hear they actually were almost too big for the 4.6 (low torque) so they may do well on the 5.4.

Im traditionally a pushrod guy so bare with me.

Thanks,
Chris

YOu can use what ever coil system you want. Makes no difference... except for the puter that is. If your car has factory cop, then re use it. ONly thing is you may not have a spot on the lower to bolt it down too.

Might be worth checking this out too, if you haven't already.
http://forums.stangnet.com/535901-00-cobra-r-5-4l-engine-swap.html

I assume you've seen it though seeing as how it's only two threads above this one at the moment.

I like this kind of stuff. I consider myself an engine swap kind of guy. My first Mustang and the first car I ever really worked on is the 68 (that I still have, and will always have) that I took the 200 I6 and 3 speed out of and put in the 351w and T5. That car taught me a lot.

My email is CocoRicanSwagg@AOL.com. Do you think the B heads from the lincoln will be enough? Whats a COP?? I wanted to Bolt the lincoln quad cam heads to the 5.4 to have a 32v 5.4. Question is what intake will fit a B head on a 5.4??? I found a guy with a 2003 Navigator engine for $700 Says theres low compression on cyl 8 but i plan on rebuilding the bottom anyways.

Thanks guys

do you plan to port your b head ?
what kind of power do you expect ?

for the intake, I've a 97 cobra intake cutted in half, widen and rewelded.

UPDATE

OK so i Scored a 2003 Navigator motor for $700. I think that year should be 32v right??? Theyre delivering in monday so ill see. So no B heads. Cutting intake and widening??? that hard??? Where did you get that done?? I was wondering if i went to my local Tasca Ford dealership if they could get the 5.4 intake from the european 5.4 Falcon.
