It will work but I have been told it could do alot of damage. It will work because the 8 cylinder bearing is larger than the 4 cylinder shaft so it will go in no problem. What you should do and it is also what I have done in the past is change the pilot bearing to match the trans you have. 4 cyl tranny = 4 cylinder pilot bearing, 8 cylinder tranny= 8 cylinder pilot bearing.

Don't use the V8 pilot bearing. The input shaft is supported at the end by the pilot bearing and since the 4cyl T5 has a smaller diameter end on the shaft, it'll move around and cause damage in the trans. The part number you need is #14672 at Autozone. It's for a diesel Ford Ranger.

It'll probably do damage to both the pilot bearing and the trans itself by using the wrong one. I bet you'll notice quite a bit of vibration, too, since the input shaft (and clutch disk) will be bouncing around.

+1. You will get a wicked vibration at 80-90MPH. Over 100+ will be unbearable. A 4cyl PB will not fit in a 8cyl crankshaft. Not only is the hole bigger the entire bearing is bigger.

.

Through massive amounts of searching, here's the end of this thread.

Use BCA 202-SS or 14672 bearing from Advance Auto, AutoZone, or wherever. They both measures .5906 ID and 1.378 OD. and cost about $15
