Seems like a cheap simple way to install an oil cooler and install the filter at a different angle.

I'd imagine you'd need two new lower radiator hoses as well, but looks like it would work out. Anyone try this? I know it uses a smaller filter than the fl-1a.

I used one on my car for a season or two. I came to the conclusion that it's better as an oil pre-heater than it is as a cooler ;)

It requires a different, and very hard to find, lower rad hose. I had to improvise. It might also need new o-rings, some of which are proprietary IMHO. Lastly, it needs a proprietary mounting bolt for the block, and the old one can be a real bugger to get out.

My oil temps are 20+ degrees cooler on track with the FRPP stacked-plate oil cooler hanging out in front of the condenser than they were with the explorer cooler IIRC.

At what point do you really need an oil cooler?

I was thinking of picking one up for a future install of a centrifugal blower that might need to use engine oil for cooling (unless imget a sealed unit or a roots type)

I would think that an oil cooler would be best suited for a road race or circle track car where the car is in continous high power mode.

A quarter mile run will allow the engine to cool down between runs. Driving around town probably won't bring the power level up enough to get the oil heated up to the point that it needs cooling.
