I can get an early 80's crown vic 5.0 for free. I also can get a 4cyl 4eye car for free or cheap. What, if anything, can I use from the crown vic? I was interested in knowing if I could use the whole subframe and rear end as a way of upgrading the stang. I have wanted a stang for ever and cant aford one so I thought this might be a cheap way to go. Thanks in advance for tips and thought on the progect.

Depends on where you are at, but I have seen some cheap stangs on www.craigslist.com , anyway I am in the process of gathering the stuff to make the switch to turn my 84 302 carbed to a 302 (explorer engine) EFI. So it is similar in theory to what you are doing. That being said I think money wise you are looking to spend just about the same as if you would have bought a 5.0 if not more. That is just based on my research and pricing of parts. And I am not a pro as this is my first venture down the modding route.

Also v8only has a good thread about this that should be a few posts down from this one. Also check out www.foureyedpride.com lots of good info there and it is a community geared for your year car.

good luck homie

The Crown Vic engine and AOD trans will bolt in to the Stang, using the existing four cylinder k member and trans crossmember. The Crown Vic accessories and belt arrangement is very different than a Mustang, and I am not sure they will fit or work. If they fit in the car, and the hood closes they are ok.

I think the Crown may have a batch fire EFI, not sure on this.

It would work, but you would not have the otherwise available 5.0 performance.

The engine, and injectors will also work with Mustang electronics and wiring.

This conversion is more common in the Ford truck world than the Mustang world.

If you went carbed, and it was cheap, it would be a good starting point.
