Hey all, bunch of questions here, hope they don't appear to random..

Basic outline - 1989 Mazda truck, bad motor, 1991 LX longblock with AOD for V8 conversion in WA state. No known visual inspections, just sniff test.

Now I see I have a few options. a Friend has a 88 Mustang McClaren edition with SD EFI system, he is willing to sell me the harness and EFI system for $150. Wiring, intakes, etc. This will pose wiring issues as I am selling the mazda EFI system and wiring, so I need to splice it into a stock mazda system from the dash. which makes me wonder if maybe going Carb would be better. I have done a conversions before with both (see sig) and the EFI is a big wiring headache at times, but runs so much nicer.

How are the SD systems in terms of emissions?? My '91 is bone stock and will probably remain so, so nothing radical to have emissions problems. I would like to delete the EGR and smog pump, will that be a problem or cause MIL lights?

Has anyone put a Carb on a later 5.0 and been able to pass emisisons?? I preffer EFI, but maybe a Carb will be better with the wiring issues.

THANKS!!

Why wouldn't you beable to pass ems. with a carb?
They did it back in 85-86 didn't they?

Like I said I am looking for options. This will be a daily driver, so the efficiency and smooth running of the EFI will be a benefit, plus at $150, it is cheaper than just an intake for a Carb new, though I bet I could get carb and intake used for around $300. Or maybe go Carb intake with Holley TBI system??

I do wonder about emissions though, after about '86 everything is EFI??

I tried signing up at 50tech and the activation link they sent will not work, so I am hosed.. Could you email or PM one of the mods to let them know?? or have them email me lamrith@hotmail.com
