5 lug complete. time to show em off (pics!)

hey all, just thought id throw up some pics of my car. 5 lug is done. 99 PBR calipers up front and ultra rare, very amazing 83-92 ranger drums in the back. Steering wheel is still misaligned and i think i need to bleed em again one last time, but its drivable! so i washed it today. The body isnt great, but its all ive got.

and for something truly hilarious, just for the hell of it, i tried to fit these land rover wheels on it. It turns out they dont fit, and i bought them purely to resell for profit, but i just wanted to see what it would look like for ****s and giggles. It really made it look like a drug runner. 19's are too big anyway. anyways, here goes!

hope you enjoyed, and again, the land rover wheels did not fit and they are not on the car! i dont think i wouldve run them anyway, even if they did fit.

Well done. I've done the rear so far with drums, saving a little longer for the front. Would you say it stops better than stock and was the front difficult compared to the rear? Thanks, nice wheel

Yes, PBR's with stock rear drums do stop good. That is what I have on my 91 notch.

Just make sure you replace everything in the rear to insure efficiency. Wheel cylinders, shoes, springs, and the self adjusters. I would also flush all the old fluid out, and get new fluid in.

to be honest, the argument could be made that, without adjusting the stock proportioning valve, it stops worse because the fronts will lock before the rears, however, i waited to do 5 lug until my 4 lug rotors were warped and pads were shot, so from that it stops way better! The hardest thing about the front was figuring out hwo to use autozones balljoint pusher and 2 jaw puller. the balljoints and steering tie rod ends both have these tapered studs that need to be pressed into the spindle/a-arm and its a bit of a bear getting the old crap out because you also have rust to deal with. Additionally, i didnt have enough room with my old struts to tighten the spindle to balljiont nut, so i had to completely remove the struts before torquing the spindle down. i bought sn-95 BJs so i didnt have to deal with the .330" spacer deal. Didnt even use a cotter pin anyway, which works for me! So yeah the fronts much more difficult. i also had to grind my spindles down a little bit to clear the PBRs. The rear was a out with the old in with the new hour-long deal. not bad at all.

Drum brakes have tons of stopping force. If you look on a lot of trucks, they do have drum brakes (the ones without air brakes). Great stopping power...but they fade quick.

Now, GT rear disk brakes suck. I don't care who you talk to. They are 10" in diamter and 1/2" thick. Drive around in a 99+ GT and you are basically stopping on the front brakes anyway. That's why keeping the drums in the rear with PBR's doesn't matter at all really.

If you want a performance rear disk brake...it's Cobra disks all the way. Better fade resistance

It really looks like a 92 bimini blue paint, but if its a 93 then it couldn't have been bimini blue from the factory. Pics are deceiving sometimes though.

thanks mang. i love the color too, in fact, when i get the rust spots dealt with and whatever cosmetic upgrades (probably cobra stuff, maybe a cool hood, i dunno) i would like to get it redone in that color.

and man, i cant say it enough, especially to the guys considering doing this. i can lock the front tires with just half brake pedal travel lol. the stock crap was like almost to the floor and barely squeaking teh tires. these brakes rule! I just bought 4 potenzas for my 4 lug ponies and now theyre in my basement lol. those crappy continentals came with the 95 GT rims i bought, which actually worked out because i didnt damage my good tires driving with the whacky alignment lol. I was spinning the conti's in third at like half throttle the other day in the rain, and the PBRs have no problem locking the fronts either. cant wait to get my sweet tires back on, then ill probably wash it again, wax it, and take video!!

Well I'm halfway done so the sooner I finish the sooner I can have 4 of the same wheels instead of 10 holes in the front and cobras in the back. I think I'm just going to do the PBR's, I have to look into clearance though the cobras have a lot of backspacing

I did this awhile back, thou I am going to change the set-up again. it now has SVO rotors(with 87-93 spindles), 73mm calipers, and rear drums. In the coming month, I will be installing Cobra brakes fro the front and an IRS assembly for the rear.
