I've got a 1998 GT with a 5 spd and 94k miles. Recently it started to grind when I put it into fifth. It usually does it when the car is cold (ie. morning), but once i've driven it a little while it stops. I can usually double clutch and get around it, but sometimes it grinds anyway. It also started grinding going into second at high RPM (5k and higher). I've been told that worn synchros will cause this, but there isn't a local shop that will work on a manual trans so this is shadetree speculation. Please tell me I can just add some syncromesh and Lucas oil and be on my way. I'd rather not have to replace the whole trans. Sorry for the long post. Please help.

ya sound like your sychornizer is going. i would think about either replace it, or replace the trans. in some case, u might be able to replace your trans cheaper then take apart trans and rebuild them....

Oh i happened to have slightly used(21000miles) T-45 for sale cheap if u interested!!!:D

I'd change the fluid first, and if that doesn't fix it, then start thinking rebuild or syncro. It never hurts to change the fluid, especially since you're probably overdue for one anyway :) :nice:

No one commented on that? You drive a modern car, there is no need to double clutch. You can rev the motor with the clutch pressed in.

Best would be to change your fluid with Royal Purple or Synchromesh and see if it helps. Ive heard bad things about Lucas, and how it foams up and doesnt protect like it should.
