Searched around but didn't really find an answer. Are 50 series tires too big for a 97 mustang GT on 18" wheels? The car is lowered. Not sure how much because it was lowered when I bought it. I was looking at buying some wheels I saw and they already have tires on them. The size of the tires are 235/50/18.

50 refers to the height of the sidewall, that means that it is 50% of the width of the tire... 117.5 mm for that tire. That tire would be 27.25" high, which is way taller than the stock tires... it will make your speedometer off by like 5%. Sounds like a truck tire to me. Why are you considering putting these on the car?

I was looking more at the wheels than the tires. I know what the 50 represents and figured it would be too tall. Just wanted confirmation. Thanks!

Missinlinc:

There are "rev/mile" calculators available on-line and at TireRack.com. In fact, TireRack.com has a nice feature that allows you to "try on", electronically, different wheel and tire combos. You put in your stock wheel/tire combination and then it offers 18", 19", ..., etc. with the same or almost the same overall height. Check 'em out.
