'57 9" rear, '68 notch, and tire appearance...

'57 9" rear, '68 notch, and tire fitment...

I just looked through eight pages of search results and didnt find an answer, so I'm asking now. I have the opportunity to trade my '68's 8 inch rear for a 9" out of a '57 Custom 300, but as many of you know the '57 rear is two inches shorter than my Mustang's. I was going to get 15x7 or 15x8 Torque Thrusts, but I want to use the same backspacing all around so I can rotate tires. What I'm worried about is the back wheels looking sucked into the fenderwells or actual fitment problems. Will I have any issues?

I just put a 57/59 rear in my 67.
I have 14x7’s all the way around. 215/60 Front and 265/50 in the rear. You do notice the difference at first because you are not use to it. It’s only 1” on each side, so it’s not that major. I did this knowing that I would eventually get new wheels and tires and be running larger wheels in the back.
The whole point was to be able to run a deeper dish wheel in the back. Maybe a 8” or 9” wheel in the back.

If you are set on running the same size tires then you and a trained eye will notice the difference.

It will look fine as long as you use the 15x7's in front and the 8's in the rear. Besides, unless you plan on this being your daily driver, you're not likely to put enough miles on it to need to worry about rotating the tires.

Eh, nothing there.

BTW, this will be my daily driver, my only car in fact. Thats why I was concerned about rotating the tires. I'll consider using 8s in the back, but I was also going to get a set of 15x7 black steel circle track wheels for the time being. It will be cheaper to spend $150-200 on rims than to replace the set of 225/60/r15 tires I already have.

If anything, that looks kinda stock to me. I wouldnt know the rear was unoriginal. I feel better now, but what backpacing are those Cragars?
