the problem with air shocks is they take all the load off the leafs and place it directly on the rear bracing under the car ,so all the rear weight is held up just by the shocks and will eventualy crack the shock crossmember or worse push the shocks through the crossmember i have seen this, it will also crack the floor through the oaval holesI actually DO have air shocks on the car. Are they the problem? I thought it would be good to have air shocks to adjust the rear ride height. If air shocks are junk, what brand of shock would you recommend?

can you post some pics, stock springs will probably be softer and allow the tire to rub even more,also depends on the arch of the spring. you realy dont want longerThe wheel opening width must be about 2 inches, right? Won't all wheels come in contact with the edge if the body drops far enough to contact the wheel? If the offset on the wheel is enough to put it inside the wheel lip, wouldn't it look terrible tucked 2 inches inside the back quarter opening? The leafs are probably 20 years old. The previous owner had the long extension shackles because the leafs were saggy. I bought new leafs and installed the stock shackles to connect the leafs to the rear frame rails. I ordered a set of kyb monotube shocks for the rear. If that doesn't help the problem, my next thing to look at will be the leafs. If I have to replace the leafs, I wonder if stock would be fine or if I should look into something stiffer??
the coupe is not rolledthe problem is these cars were not designed for wide tires or tall tires ,so correct backspacing and tire width and modified wheel openings is about the only way to make them clear every thing. a rounded edged tire like the ones pictured above is a good start, they look like a great fit. iskwezm ,are the wheel lips roled ?
