I'm selling my current mustang for a classic and I've seemed to narrow down my search to 67's and 68's. Now, the reason for this post is that I'm open to the idea of doing a I6 to V8 swap. Now, I've searched all through this site for information on this, and most of what I find deals with the conversion for 65's and 66's.
Several posts I've read said that 67+, the only difference between the I6 and V8 (asside from the obvious motor) is the rear-end, front springs, spindles and brakes. Am I missing anything here?
I ask this because as I plan this car, these are pieces I will eventually swap out to modernize the car. So, if I already plan on doing this and there isn't anything else, why not expand the universe of cars I'm considering by also looking at the I6's and then convert them?
Your input is greatly appreciated.
Oh, one other side comment. I have some 18x9.5 2000 Cobra R's that I was going to put on the back of whatever classic I buy. Backspacing on this is just over 6"...something like 6.18 (don't remember exactly). Will I run into fitment problems with an 8", 8.8" or 9" on a 67 or 68? I know they're way to big in the front...I've found some replica versions of them in smaller sizes. I looked at the tire/wheel fitment chart and didn't see anything quite like these on that chart.
Again, thanks!
