I just bought this '79, solid little car, but I don't know much about it. I know the rear axle is one that has been swapped in, because it looks too wide. My question is, how do I know if it's a 7.5 or an 8.8? I've done some searching, but one site will contradict what another site says. Is there a way to tell without pulling the cover?

I thought it was a 7.5 when I first looked at it, and it looks like I was right, even though the guy selling me the car swore otherwise. :bs: Now I know for sure that it's the little rear end.

My next question is- At what point will I break it? This is going to be a street / strip car, and it's got 275 / 60 drag radials on it. Granted, the car isn't going to set the track on fire it's first time out, but is the 7.5 strong enough to even try and use?

It will be fine for the street...but the 7.5" is not a posi, so it is like a one legged man in an ass-kicking contest. It will survive at the track for a short period of time. It depends on your mods and suspension.
