Mustang II with a 302 but not sure what the transmission is, it is a 4 speed. just got the car last year, changed the engine but now the transmission is leaking
I changed the seal on the rear of the transmission, some people call it the tail. this is where the drive shaft slides into the transmission. What i am wondering is, is there another seal on the inside becasue it is still leaking.

thanks,

Andrew

I don't think there is another seal inside, I could be wrong having never pulled one apart. However, I do know that if the end of the shaft must be clean and have a finished surface for the seal to work properly.
Try taking the shaft out, and use emery cloth to clean up the end where it meets the seal. You want to have a smooth shiny surface.

Grab the driveshaft at the yoke ( towards tailshaft). See how much play is there. If you can move it side to side and up and down, the bushing is worn. Most trannys have a bronze bushing that never seems to get replaced( even during rebuilds) once worn they allow too much play. So much that no seal will keep the lube contained within.

does anyone know where I can get a shop manual for this car or transmission? preferrable online so I can read and get to work ASAP. the car is actually my daughters and I just did an engine swap for her and she is bugging me to drive it so I need to solve this leaky tranny ASAP before she drives me crazy :-)

thanks, Andrew
