Car developed drivetrain slop, seems to be excessive backlash. Upon disassembly, the retainer bolt broke. It was dark & I was pissed so I just put tools away & stopped working. Not sure it all the threads are out or it it is just the pin left in there. Will be getting back to it after work. Any suggestions?

Thanks

It happened to me one time in the past. I sprayed brake cleaner in the hole first and let it evaporate. Luckily I was able to use a pencil eraser to back the pin out. There was just enough of a burr on the pin to catch the eraser.

Blew it out w/air, waited, sprayed non-chlorinated brake cleaner, waited, blew it out w/air again, waited.......
No go, tired new & used pencils, the ferrule was too great in diameter to reach the pin....

If the eraser furrule was not reaching the pin, maybe it's pin only in there and no threads. In which case a good magnet might get it out. Find a bolt shank that will reach the pin. Put the shank on the magnet and fish it out. Might need to tap on the carrier at the same time to shock it loose. Nice strong speaker magnet maybe
