My father has an '86 LX 5.0 with the stock auto tranny. My sister drove the car previously so it wasn't a problem. Now that he's going to be driving it, he wants to switch the tranny out in favor of a manual one. Now my question is this:
Which tranny should he go for? He doesn't need anything too hardcore.. a simple five speed that can take some beating but doesn't need to be bulletproof. How much would said tranny cost?
Also - what all is involved in switching out the transmission like this? How much would it be for a shop to do the swap? How much would everything be once all is said and done?
