NEED HELP!! 88 GT 5.0 Headaches

I have an 88 GT that has been modified. I'm not sure what all was done to it as everything was done before I bought it. It did have a Holly 670CFM Street Avenger with a performer 302 intake, MSD 6A Ignition sysyem and MSD 8582 Distributor. Cam is not stock and the AOD was replaced with a C4 Pro Street trans.

It has been made back into an EFI system (only took the shop 7 weeks). Now I have the surge and idle stall. The shop that is working on it says it is the cam and trans causing the problem or possibly the ECU.

I think it has something to do with them installing 35lb injectors and that they don't have a clue as to what they are doing.

Any Better Ideas? This is my first Mustang and could really use the help.

First, 35 lb injectors ? If not a blower is installed, you need alot of horsepower, running that big injectors, N/A. If your engine is around 450hp +, that injector size would bee ok. So, do you know what computer you got, and are the Mass air flow meter calibrated for #19, #24 or what size injectors ?

A complete list of what your set-up is and what was installed would be good. Where were 35's procured?

List what MAF, etc you are running.

Good luck.

yea, if they just threw those big ol injector in there without a calburated maf... there are gonna be some issues with driveability. besides, 36lb injectors are far too large for an NA setup unless its making crazy power.

Holy smokes that shop is jackin you around in a large way. If infact they've installed 35 pound injectors in a vehicle that is not super/turbo charged, then I would not only question their ablities...but get the car the hell out of there.

Yea you need to find a set of 19lb injectors quick. If the computer is an A9p, its for an auto so i dont think that would be your problem.

The car was set up for 10 inch drag but plan to take it to Japan this summer so had to make it street legal again. Not sure on all the set up it was done before I got it. Tried to get my car yesterday but I will not take it off his lot without a receipt and all of my old parts. He sold my Edelbrock Performer 302 intake and K&N filter system. Plus he let a kid put my Holley 670 Street Avenger on hi car and caught it on fire.

Not sure what MAF is installed or where the 35's came from can't get a straight answer from this shop about anything. All I know is what was on the car before this shop got at it:

1987 T-top Ford Mustang GT: 302 HO Roller, MSD 6-A, MSD Billet Distributor,
K&N Filter, 670 cfm Holley Street Avenger, 2” Phenolic Spacer, Eldebrock RPM Air Gap Intake, Long Tube Headers, Duel Flow Master 40 Series, C4 Pro Street Automatic Tranny, 3.55 Posi Rearend, 4 Wheel Disc Brakes, Pulley Under Drive Kit, A/C & Smog Pump Eliminator Kit

It is set up with the original speed density. I wanted Mass air but the shop installed SD.

Not really...maybe after I get all the bugs worked out and she gets a new paint job..

Also has anyone out there heard of a folding/retractable mirror that will work no this year. No retract no can take with to Japan and that will suck after all I've been through to get it this far.

Thanks

Which base are on and who did you take the car to. I am also a Marine. I've been in town for over eight years now. Maybe I could help you out. I'm at New River.

There's your problem right there.

Speed Density computers only work with 19# injectors unless you burn a chip. Also, most aftermarket camshafts will not work with speed density.

You have to convert to Mass Air. You'll need a Mass Air EEC, a MAF meter and an IST Mass Air conversion harness which is about $35

http://www.mass-air.com/Products.htm

You could just swap the 19#ers on and see how that works, but if you have an aftermarket camshaft it still may not run right. Either way, no way should you have 35# injectors on a N/A car. With your setup, 24# would be the most i would run but i don't think you are at the power level to justify them yet. Stick with 19's
