So out of curiosity which one should be quicker in a plain old street race? 1989 5.0LX or 2005 GT. Here are the mods to both vehicles


89LX
Stock motor
Stock ported heads
24# injectors

I haven't ran him yet I have the 89 he has the 05. He talks a good game I just agree with him. But we will soon see.
He thinks he can pull me by 50 ft.

Just a guess but if the guy with the 05 can drive I would think he would win. They are known to trap 106-107mph in the 1/4 stock so with his mods I would guess closer to 108-109mph....the 5.0 will not do that with the stock ported heads...I have seen bolt-on 05's run 12's with dr's. It's all about who can drive, tires, ect..

I would say it depends on who can get out faster. If he gets out I don't see the 5.0 catching up...but I would also say the 5.0 has him down low because of the ~500 lbs weight difference....if you get a great launch I think you could hold him off......

From a high highway roll, I would say the 05 will win every time.......

You are talking hp to weight....the gt is about 500lb. more but with those mods should dyno about 330 rwhp...the fox with those mods is good for about 270 rwhp...I say it's a drivers race, bottom end edge to the fox, top end edge to the 3 vlave..

Well, lets see..

he says "Ported" heads.. UNLESS those are PRO PORTED such as Thumper or Powerheads.. then they aren't gonna be much help (generally)

Intakes are good for about 10hp on a stocker...

the T/B doesn't neccessarily add anything UNLESS there is need for that induction (I dont believe there is here)

Exhaust might give 10 or so...

So, at 190rwhp guestmate and an added maybe 20-30rwhp we are looking at 210-220ish range..

The newer gt's put out around 275hp to the wheels..

factor in the tired engine in the fox (maybe, maybe not).. and the better traction of the newer stang... and U got an 05 walking a fox like it should.






Now, all this can be thrown out the window IF those heads are dont by someone reputable.

DANG! Givin no credit to the fitty!!! Either way, it should be good, but I wanna say you will win still...

You did leave out a new maf as well, which in concurrence with everything else will help. Also, he has a cam which will add as well. Your numbers were a bit low. I give him at least 30 more to the wheels than your giving, even with a crappy port on the heads. That being said, we are now at 230-240ish based on yours and my calculations... I think with the 500 lb diff it should be much closer than your giving credit for.. either way, we shall soon see!

Just trying to be realistic thats all...

I do WISH the Fox 5.0 was the baddest machine out there... but, its not. Thats why you build em!

The 05 will win. Right now Im trapping at about 107mph (stock TB, stock ignition, stock injectors, stock MAF, no tune) and I barely pull on 05 GT's. They are no pushover at all, they are very equivilent to the 04 mach1's which will absolutly rape a stock or near stock fox. Which as said before, unless your heads are professionally ported, you will get your ass handed to you, no offense.

Yeah we will see we are suppose to meet up next weekened. So I hope my car is running tip top then. My heads were professionally ported by a machine shop called Ahines Racing engines. They are a family owned business been around up here for 30 years. They have a pretty good reputation.
