Progress Thread 89 GT lives

88 bronco. 5.0 AOD. Low power speed density.
So mass conversion and since the blocks are roller ready we did the ho cam with explorer heads and intake. With shorty headers and dual exhaust she felt like a mustang. Towed better and could keep up on the freeway.
Anyway i sold it and that money is going in the mustang. I've already said this will be a stock daily driver. I'm doing some upgrades but not really power mods.

So i got the intake put on and got a factory throttle body and spacer. I finally got the dash and column back in. So far everything electrical works.
The wipers work if i jump the connector but no continuity through the switch.
I'll take that apart and see what's going on . Probably corrosion but the turn signals and dimmer works. I can usually get switches working by cleaning the contacts. I hate buying something i can fix.
Anyway the wiper motor sounds pretty sick so I'll try to refurbish that too.
The head light switch works but the top cover is broken off so it won't snap into the panel.
Surprisingly all exterior and interior lights worked with only a couple of bad bulbs.
The headlight housings are pretty bad so they'll get replaced. I replaced the passenger taillight lens and will replace the drivers side next week.
When i first turned on the ignition switch i didn't realize the blower switch was on high so it squealed for a second and went full blast blowing lots of crap out of the vents.
Power mirrors even work. I have to replace some connectors on the engine harness but I should have it running next week.

Yep. The center on the air dam is cut out I've seen that on other cars. It seems that drag racers do that to reduce drag. By the way that nose doesn't even belong there. It's the 93 style with the small grill opening. Mines a 89' I'm still waiting for a nose to be in stock at rock auto seems to be the best price on a new one but id consider a used one but none locally to me.

Well i got enough together to try and start it.
I had to replace the fuel line fitting at the tank since i got the tank and sender from a 94 gt.
The fuel outlet is 3/8 where the 89 is 5/16.
These are nylon lines and plastic fittings.
Dorman 800-085 is what i used to change the fitting to 3/8 into a 5/16 line.
I primed the system several times with the shrader valve out. First was nasty yellow stuff followed by brown nasty stuff and finally clean fuel. The motor turns over with a even rhythm.
Although i haven't done a compression test I'm sure it's okay. It's an old motor.
I need to replace the starter cable. It's getting pretty hot and the motor isn't turning as fast as it should but it's fast enough. Maf isn't connected, nor iat, o2 and all vacuum lines are plugged right now. No belt and no cooling system installed.
Well i couldn't wait. She turned over a couple seconds and then , Vrooooom She's alive ha ha haha

So the factory air filter housing is one of the many things missing from the car. There is the mounting plate for a cai that puts the filter in the fender. I guess I'll fab up some tubing and go that route. The cai kits are expensive and i already have the mounting plate. I would just use a factory air cleaner but those are even more expensive. I might could make the air cleaner from another car work. I'll look at the pnp. O'Reilly's has the plastic intake tubing and couplers that's what i did on my truck.

Have you seen this?

This puts the filter [in] the engine bay and still takes cold air form the fender. It would also reduce the amount of piping you need to run.

Also, since you may also be filter hunting anyhow...

Of course, they have the entire kit but eh...
