from a light: a slow roll to second gear, i hear him get on it... he pulled about a car on me slowly to abt 4th, i then started pulling on him and he tapped his brakes.. i think he thought i would pull on him and/or just cut off becasue of the speed... is it safe to say that i have a low 14 sec car? i was happy with the race regardless...

BTW... i had 3 other ppl in my car.. 2 girls at 125 a pop and a guy @ 170-190

whats 400-450 pounds worth in the 1/4?

EDIT: I didn't know the guy, not sure what work he has done, he had exhaust though, and my windows were up so i don't know if he had an auto or 6 speed

EDIT #2: sorry, i meant to post this in NON-Technical...

LT1's are poop. haven't met one on the street that could hang yet.. i know there is surely some that can but they would have to spend twice what i have so far.. i have a few buddies that have Fireturds and slomaros with the LT1 and they are 14.20 - 13.50 cars with gears, ported intake, siamesed runners, full 3" exhaust, and some other GM junk. Now the LS1 is another story.i've beaten a few, been raped by a couple and hung with most till 110-120..

450 pounds is almost a half-second worth of baggage. You would have destroyed that GM junk if your car had been unladen.

(Passenger ejection seats are handy for this reason.. )

Such hate for faster cars here...

I wouldnt go quoting low 14s yet, I have seen Fbodies run crappy times, and we all know the street wont hook like a prepped track will. As far as LT1s go, they should be low 14s at the worst (I have seen mid to high 14s, but usually bad drivers) and a lot run into the 13s untouched. They are also easy to make fast, and a bolt on car with traction should be in the high 12s. LTs are good motors, just not a lot of drag racers out there with them.

LT1's aren't much stock, but should take out a stock 5.0. It's rare to see them modded because they are such a PITA to work on, and lets not even start with the opti-spark ignition system, but there is a kit now that replaces it with coil packs like the LS1. I've run into some really fast one's and some slow one's. True, the LS1 is better, but the LT1 can be steped up.

BTW: '93 LT1's had speed density, worse cam and iron heads that weren't as good as the 94+ models, not to mention the tranny in the auto's.

If someone put the same time and money into an LT1 that you put into your car and you lined up with him, it would be the equivalent of you getting tea bagged by an elephant. My last car was an LT1 but I sold it for my present one because I wanted something stick and easy to maintain (and I got a good deal) but let me tell you I am far from impressed so far.

Take it to the track and find out...also just because you almost beat that lt1 doesn't mean he was driving the best...he could have been a 15 second driver for all you know...I raced an lt1 the other day that tagged off a 15.3

Low 14's is the average for a properly driven and tuned lt1...some even lower...

A stock lt1 (6spd vs. 5spd or auto vs. auto) will beat a stock 5.0...
