Well it's a daily driver so stick with the AOD since it has over-drive. You'll get better fuel economy. And, why not just have someone in your area rebuild your AOD? They're not a very complicated trans at all.

BTW the C4 isn't the same length as an AOD. So the crossmember would have to be modified and your drive shaft would have to be lengthened due to the fact that C4's are shorter than AOD's.

Yes you can have them install a shift kit. But why get a higher stall torque converter? That's almost useless, especially for a DD. Higher stall torque converters are made for cars with bigger cams because the power is higher in the RPM range due to the longer duration and higher lift. Factory stall speeds are best for factory cams because the stall speed is relatively close to where your engine starts making power.

Oh yeah if you had either one of those cams I would get a higher stall converter. Nothing outrageous like a 3000 stall or anything. That would suck for in town driving. Too many "daily driver" hot rods have I ridden in or driven that had way too big of a stall and they were terrible in town. Get a converter that the stall speed is relatively close or a couple hundred RPM's more than when your cam starts making power.

Don't buy a 3000 stall torque converter when your cam starts making power at 1500 RPM is pretty much what I'm telling you lol.

And $900 seems like a good price. But, is that them pulling it out, building it, new torque converter, and putting it back in? If it's $900 for just a bench build (you pull the trans yourself and take to them) then it better have some BA high performance parts and an awesome torque converter or they're screwing you.

My AOD went out earlier this year, after pricing getting it rebuilt vs swapping in a t5, I decided it wasn't worth my money to keep the AOD. I'm glad I went 5 speed, its the way the car should have come from Ford!!

Where are you guys getting your quotes from? At my shop, we charge $950 for us pulling it out, rebuilding it (with shift kit), a new torque converter, and us putting it back in with a 12 month 12,000 mile warranty. I don't think that's bad at all. I'm sure a T5 swap is more than that. If not, someone enlighten me lol

I paid $900 for the transmission, bell housing, pedal assembly, aluminum driveshaft, crossmember and a short throw shifter. You just have to keep your eye on craigslist and ebay. I purchased new a firewall adjuster, new cable as well as tranny mount and a new clutch. I did all the work myself, the hardest part of the swap was the pedals, I found info on here on how to complete the swap. I never cared for the aod, so I was kinda happy when it blew up lol.
