New 91 GT 5.0 motor with 97 explorer intake and plenum, headers get red hot and valve covers real hot to the touch in less then a min idle, timing set, vacuum good, not sure if I'm missing a step, have the factoryTB, and egr plugs in back of heads, EGR still on TB, coolant line from TB to intake has no spot to go, not sure if that's my problem or not?

If the headers are getting red hot, you are running lean.

Timing is set, vacuums. Is good, I'm running stock TB on the explorer intake, removed the EGR tube and plugged heads, coolant line from the TB to intake is not hooked up,

Fuel pressure? Are o2's installed? Do you have any codes that would point to something that would control fuel/timing curves such as coolant sensor or o2?

I don't have any code readers, the car came with 2 ECU, the original one A9L is unhooked and the A9S is hooked up, also not sure if I have to drill a spot on the intake for the TB coolant line.

TB coolant line won't make a difference here. This doesn't sounds like a typical water temp overheating issue.

It really sounds like you are very lean. Is your firing order correct? have you pulled plugs to make sure all plugs are firing? Inspect the plugs to see if they look white hot?

Also I don't have that censor that goes inside the oil pan hooked up, I will inspect plugs now,

And this will make it to where my headers and valve covers won't get extremely hot?

This is the first step in resolving your issue ( stock copper core plugs) make sure your timing is 10-12° and check for codes, there is a thread on checking codes in the 5.0 tech/how to forums, likely not any one thing is going to work.

Glowing headers usually says retarded timing to me.... how did you set the timing? Did you remember to pull the spout when you set it?

Is the spout the little plug in connector off of the distributor wires?

When I first started the car the headers would get hot enough to almost melt within a min or less, after I set the timing it took about 3 min to get red hot but doesn't get as red.

What plugs are those? Also it's too far away to see the electrode tip. Really need a pic like this
