Hey guys! Im new here and have a few questions. First off i just bought a 91 Foxbody lx 5.0 bored .30 over to a 306. The car has a mild cam. I live in Cincinnati, Ohio so the weather is cold right now. When I fire the car up it will surge from 750 rpm to around 1500 rpm. I know part of this is from the cam, but it shouldnt range that far. Sometimes the car will stall at a light, sometimes it wont. Is this a timing issue, or more air related? Any help would be great! Thanks!

I moved this to the tech threads for ya, welcome to stangnet.
In the 5.0 tech/how to section there is a surging idle check list, jrichker put it together to diagnose and repair idle fluctuations, read it over to familiarize yourself then go through the steps one by one, it includes checking for codes and base idle reset, don't skip around, each step is in order.
It will save you time and money.

As recommended by karthief:

You guys with idle/stall problems could save a lot of time chasing your tails if you would go through the Surging Idle Checklist. Over 50 different people contributed information to it. The first two posts have all the fixes, and steps through the how to find and fix your idle problems without spending a lot of time and money. It includes how to dump the computer codes quickly and simply as one of the first steps. I continue to update it as more people post fixes or ask questions. You can post questions to that sticky and have your name and idle problem recognized. The guys with original problems and fixes get their posts added to the main fix.

It's free, I don't get anything for the use of it except knowing I helped a fellow Mustang enthusiast with his car. At last check, it had more than 250,000 hits, which indicates it does help fix idle problems quickly and inexpensively.

I was having stall issues with a basic stage 1 cam when partially coming off the brake at lights. Did you try adjusting the idle?

Check your throttle position sensor or tps. I had the same problem and it fixed mine.you will need a multimeter.there are lots of Youtube videos on it.its an easy fix if that’s the problem.

In the upper right side of the dialog box, SN Certified Technician this tells you they have been there done that, some here have also written tech threads that will help you diagnose problems and fix them, check for codes, adjust this or that so you don't waste time and money chasing your tail. Do the checklist, you may discover a problem you didn't know you had or a simple base idle reset will fix it, but if not done correctly will cause issues in othe places.
Now go get a paperclip and lets fix this dog.
