93 cobra timing

I have been reading alot of you saying to advance the timing. I've got a 93 cobra with an e-cam and cold air intake. Not sure if the timing has ever been advanced. How much should i advance it and still be safe?

usually 14 is a good advance that people dont have a problem with. youll have to run 93 octane though. just advance to 14* take it for a drive, get on it, and if you have any pinging just turn it down a degree or two and test it again. thats what i did

thanks, i think my car had a supercharger on it before i bought it, but it was taken off before i bought it as well. This leads me to believe the timing is not advanced at all, it might even be retarded (however the superchargers are usually set up). i will play with the timing this weekend and see what happens. what does the pinging sound like? is it obvious or will i have to really listen for it?

You'll notice the pinging without a doubt. Some individuals push there stock timing to 15-16 without problems too. Depending on what size blower was on the car, they may have retarded the timing or left it alone and used the boost timing retard controller. Either way, set it to 14 or 15 with the cam and have a good time.

yeah, you will notice the pinging. it sounds like a bunch of marbles in a coffee can.
