my 93 gt has idling issues and im going to be redoing the current mods anyways. i will be putting in head, cam, intake...new exhaust system as well. b4 i go spending the money on efi stuff i was contemplating going carb. also i have alot of "old school" mechanics around here who grew up on carbs so i figure getting a solid tuning would be easier. ive been told to just get my efi tuned but the closest shop is 31/2 hrs away. now i live in upstate ny but i wont be driving my car in the winter so im not to worried about the cold startup deal...i drive it on weekends and to cruise here and there its not my daily driver but i want it to be reliable. i know nothing about efi or carbs really so im new to all this...here is the list of mods that were done to the car b4 i bought it so this is what he told me was done.

3:73s
bbk cold air intake (fendermount)
bbk 70mm throttle body
bbk 70mm maf
gt40 upper and lower intake manifold (though looking at the lower it looks stock?)
bbk FP regulator
f303 cam
underdrive pulleys
bbk headers
bbk h pipe
borla dumps
stock 19lb injectors

what do you think i should do? car has 66kmi on it. looking to get around 350-400rwhp when done. 100% street driven no track etc.

if all ur having is idle problems, I'd stay efi. i have a 93 that I'm going carb with because i had a lot of damaged harnesses, and my diablosport chip was doing all it could to keep the car running well with no emmisions, or o2. ur about carb being simpler. i have the engine setup already and it is nice not having to buy new sensors, injectors, etc.

See the "Surging Idle Checklist for help with all your idle/stall problems. Everything you need to find and fix idle problems is in there.

The first two posts contain all the updates to the fixes. At last count there were 24 possible causes and fixes for surging idle/stall problems. I continue to update it as more people post fixes or ask questions.

mine is pretty much weekend and nice weather now too...i love the fact that there aren't so many 17yr old electonic/computer parts that could fail if i were to go carb. ive done alot of checking on the surging idle checklist. it doesn't happen all the time. initial start up of the day is perfect...any start up after its warm...idle surges for the first 30-60sec i have to give it a little gas and slowly bring the rpms down. i want the power the cheapest way (which seems to be carb) but i do see the advantages of efi. what should be my next move?

Idle issues will be the least of your problems if you try switching to carb. That's really easy to work out. Take jrichker's advice. That page helped me resolve an idle and stalling problem I had and it turned out to be vacuum leak at intake manifold gasket and idle set screw adjustment.

Usually what happens is that if you can't get it to run right when it is EFI, you'll never get it to run right with carb either. Going carb doesn't magically fix your problems, it just changes them for different ones.

Also, if you ever, EVER even think about selling the car, switching it to carb will reduce your interested buyers by probably more than half. You could do the "most bestest" job ever, and make it run and look PERFECT, but buyers will skim right over an ad if they see that it's a carb conversion car.
