Hi guys I'm new here and have a question or 2 or 3.

I have a pretty much stock 94 GT vert *it does have an h-pipe and MSD ignition on it*, and have a chance to get a 95 cobra intake that's been ported and polished.

The TB needed for this manifold will be 75mm since it's been ported to that sized opening. I was thinking of a BBK 75mm or the new Professional products 75mm.

My wife bought me a BBK cai for Christmas

How does this sound as a combo for my 94 GT vert?

Any problems you forsee with this combo?

What horsepower gains am I looking at?

thanks,

Larry

Those are nice pcs for sure...the Cobra i would do....the TB size is prooly o/kill...your gonna loose some low end for sure, and you'll notice that right off, especially if the intakes been ported all around...thats alot for your stock motor...

5 spd or auto???

well the guys exact words were these:

"ported and polished, meaning the ports are opened up a little, and polished for better air flow."

he also said this:

"well, i remember an issue of muscle mustangs and fast fords, and they tested all the intake manifolds. the cobra manifold made 25rwhp more then a completely stock mustang, and it is the only bolt on for the 94-95 (you need the special elbow for all other intake manifolds). This intake is ported so it will give you probably 5 more rwhp and you dont need a 75mm throttle body. i can even give you a 3/8" spacer that i have for the intake if you decide to purchase it. thanks i will get pics if you still want."

I'm saying the intake, but i would skip the TB and the spacer....
It'll improve the top end some...but low end is normally better playing....

a Cobra intake is sweet, but they have the h/c to support that...your doing E7s so you dont wanna kill the airflow to much with ported and o/size TB.... youll get something out of it...i may not be as impressive as you thought if loose all the low end??? without heads...those tend to move the power up in the RPMs.....5pd/Auto?? any gears in it???

5spd no gearing that I know of, but it seems pretty quick.

so, if I do get it, and a 75mm would be over kill, what would be a good size T/B for it? 65mm or 70mm?

I really would like to improve the "seat of the pants" effect on take off..

should I just skip the intake and install the BBK cold air kit and put a larger T/B on it?

thanks,

Larry

You want something that'll give you S.O.T.P.....then you need to gear...hands down it will bring a smile to your face and improve the o/all car like nothing else, short of infusing it with lotsa HP.... :D

if your really set on the Cobra, by all means get it...350 is a sweet price....you have some exhaust mods, and breathing mods will make a big dif...I personally have done a few intake swaps in the Cobra/Explorer/Ported stock lowers....To me...if H/C/I arent in the near future...I would go a TMoss ported lower for 120.00 or so...add some 373's, Udrives and maybe throw a 65 TB on it....youll get alot more hit Then the Cobra/75 route...the car will have killer low end, gain in the upper RPMs and be a hoot compared to what it is stock....

thanks a lot for your input, I guess I'll upgrade to a 65mm T/B and put my cold air kit on, Tell me with the underdrive pullies, is it true that using them has a bad affect on your charging system since the alternator won't be getting the full rpm it needs to work correctly?

Also any brand of throttle body better than another? I was thinking of BBK or a polished Professional Products T/B

Mac u/drives and H where the very first mods I added...that was 5 yrs or more ago...I still run those very u/drives..i have never had any charging/overheating or related issues..I have the Mach460 to....The voltmeter gage drops at idle some, soon as the rpm's come up a tad its fine...

Some opt to run the stock alt pulley vs the one in the kit.....i run all u/drive...there's not alot of size difference in the alt pulleys...leave the stock one on if you like....its up to you....

not to hiijack but since the topics up , do you guys think a professional products intake is a good idea on say a 91 fox with nothing but full exhuast ( bbk shorties to o/r H for example) with timing at 14* uh hypothetically speaking

LarryT63, i have an unported lower, i would trade you for the ported one......cobra that is, or i have a t-moss intake, that i would sale cheap.

And best SOTP feeling you will get outta the car is some steep gears... to get the car moving. And i would say 65mm TB should be just about right. intake, cold air, TB should net you a pretty good punch for a start though.

just my .02, and if you would be interested in either intake, drop me an e-mail at [email protected]

well it sounds interesting, but then I still have the problem with the upper, since it has been grinding to accept a 75mm T/B, So I'm just thinking it might not be the right combo for my car... :(

Nope you ARE correct in wanting the 75mm tb. The TB does NOT dictate "loosing low end torque". NOt saying the 75mm is gonna make a lot more power at your power level now over a 65/70 BUT for the same price why not since it'll only benifit you more down the road? Putting that ported manifold will cost you some low end, though, but again, think about down the road. IMO you would want 373/410 gears before the manifold. Dont do a TB unless your at least doing a manifold. I think you'll see more a sot of the pant feel with gears and then the cobra/75mm tb next.

And no, do NOT use that POS made in china TB. Its cheap for a reason ;) Look into bbk or holley.

so do you think, I should buy the cobra intake, a decent T/B probably the BBK, since I have the opportunity to buy it at a good price right now, even if I do decide to have gears installed first?

Funny thing is, that while I do know the car has the H-pipe, I don't know exactly what it has other than the MSD ignition, it's pretty darn quick right now, and I can't see those two things alone having that much effect on the car, I guess I need to have it looked over to see what it has for sure.

Also, any idea how much it would cost to either chrome or polish the cobra intake?

thanks,

Larry
