my 95 gt has been givin me problems with the spout, so i took it out and it ran ok at 18 btc but now its givin me less power and detonation at 4900 and up, any suggestion would be appreciated

Turn the timing down to less than 18° (around 14° BTDC), put the spout in, and report back. There's no point in having it advanced that far and you may actually be losing power.

Yeah, 18° is too high. The timing you set with the spout out is the BASE timing. The computer advances/retards the timing based on engine conditions. Stock timing is 10°, though a lot of peeps can get it as high as 14° or 15° without pinging. I recommend turning it down to 10° as a test, see how it runs. Then raise it up by 2° and go for another drive. Keep going until you lose power or hear pinging (sounds like marbles in a can), then drop back by 2°.

timing was set to ten with the spout out. then i tried to put it in and it wouldnt start. so i have it out now and i am running 16btc and still pings, the main problem is it wont start if the spout is in, and if does start it stalls 5 mins later. should i run a higher octane fuel to stop the ping/detonation or is there a diag i can get? thanks again for all that help and advise

higher octane fuel will stave off detonation when the timing is advanced. Anytime it is advanced its advised to run 91 or 93 octane depending on what you can get in your area

Check and/or replace your cap and rotor!!!!! It sounds like your rotor might be messed up. If that doesn't change anything, you should start looking at the electronics (TFI module and TFI pickup). Keep us posted and good luck!
