First your opinion... My tranny has started to grind when shifting to 2nd gear from 1st on hard launches. If I'm just tooling around slow, no issues. I'm assuming it's the synchro. Thoughts?

OK, if it is a synchro, what route should I take, go ahead and spend the money and get a new tranny, possibly upgraded? Is the stock tranny good enough to go back to or do you have any other ones you would look at that would fit in, in place of the stock.

Or just have the current tranny repaired. Sorry for all the questions but thanks in advance for your help.

Hi,

I am having the same problem! Only time it grinds is when it is shifted quickly from 1st to 2nd. I'm hoping it won't break the bank to fix it. I know the t-45 is known for this and I really cant afford to put a higher end Tremec tranny in right now. I have owned my 1997 Cobra for only a couple months and I knew about the grind before I bought it, but want to correct the problem.

I plan 4:30 gears, pullies, off road h pipe, pro 5.0 or steeda shifter this summer for it. So I hope the tranny holds up, it still feels strong except the grind.

Good luck to you on this, I am gonna need it as well

Thanks to you too. I plan to go ahead and upgrade / replace the tranny. I am now trying to find out the best route... It seems that most recommend going to the T56. I would like to upgrade to a 6-speed but I can't find any definitive information on how many changes are needed to do the conversion or if the T56 is a direct bolt-up. If anyone has any information please post it. Thanks
