ive been waiting like 3 weeks for the damn for the kid to get the title from ford for the 00 gt and ive been lookin around for other deals and i found a 98 manual gt, black, leather, 80k miles for $8k. would i be limiting myself with the 98 compared to the 00? i am still a noob at this. any advice.

i dont know why its takin so long. the kid called ford requesting a copy of the title and then a week later he called again checkin up and they said it was at the registry. so then he called the registry the next day but they told him that ford requested that the title be sent back to them so the registry sent the title to someplace in georgia july 30th and i was supposed to have a copy august 12th so that i could get the paperwork in order. i havent heard anything since about where it is cause the kid is sooo hard to get a hold of. i call him like 3 times a day and leave messages and no returned calls. i am stuck in a hard place cause its takin way too long yet its a good deal and i would rather the 00. WTF!!!!!

Did he get his loan thru ford or something? The bank should have his title and should be able to fax it.If he owns the car, and simply cannot find it, ford doesn't have it, he is going to have to go to the license bureau and file for a lost title.

Get the 2000, alot of pre '99 owners do the PI swap just to bump up the hp + tq.. This way it will save you the trouble, plus it looks like the basics are taken care of.

If the kid still owes money, go with him and pay off the car and write him a check for the rest of what hes asking for.

i dont even know the whole story. i can only get bits of info from him cause i only get to talk to him online at lik 11 at niht right before he goes to bed. he said ford should have it and i would think it would only take 10 seconds to fax a copy.

sounds shady, sorry. I'd get the 00 GT though, even if it is an auto over a manual.

Why is it taking so long?Have you followed up with this guy?You would be about 10 steps ahead of the game if you were to get the 00.It's going to take you a lot more than $2000 to get the 98 to be as fast as the 00.

It will take him less than $1,000 (PI intake and Cam) to become as quick as the auto '00 and $2,000 should put him slightly faster (include the PI Heads). Oh and I didn't notice that the '00 had 4.30 gear and he didn't say if the '98 had anything better than a 3.27 but for $2,000 I think he could still do it and learn a bit about his new car at the same time. (PI Heads, PI intake and cams = $1,400 and 4.10 gear = $600)

I agree here, if you were to get the 98, a $1,000 PI (power improved) Head/Cam/Intake swap to 99+ parts would make you as fast (or faster with the manual) as that 00GT.

But how's this deal: I have a 98 Black GT (automatic) with grey leather and ~76k miles for $8,000ish. :D Mods in sig, and im selling a lot of extras with the car FREE (stock hood, headlights, 3.27 gears, slotted brakes, etc) :D

PS: If you live in NJ i can hook you up with my ford mechanic who can do the PI swap for you for cheap ;)

I dont know, I have driven automatic cars, and I enjoy controlling what my transmission does. Also its real easy to learn how to drive a manual.

That is why Baskin Robbins make so damn many flavors. Because you think it is the only way to go, does not make it right for the next person.

GDawg, it will probably make him a little quicker, but for the same $$ as the 98 with the mods you listed he can have a car that is 2 years newer.

If Ford does own the paper, expect it to take 30 days to get the title if he has indeed paid it off.

How many miles on the car, $10K sounds a bit cheap.

You are correct sir... :D

So it really comes down to which style he prefers.

The shape the car is in and the miles... I have owned my car for 5-1/2 years and I have less than 47,000 miles on it and it almost looks as good as the day it rolled out of the showroom. (Yes, it was a showroom car cause it was so damn pretty... :hail2: )

Also the insurance may be cheaper on the older car. I see newer stangs all the time that look beat to hell and almost older than mine if you didn't already know what year they are.

Now with all our great input, he has to decide.

Lies! :bs:

Used PI heads/cams/intake will run $300-500 minus install. A PI headswap will make a 96-98 GT faster than a 99-04, stock for stock. (PI swap increases compression giving and extra ~10-15hp). The fact that the 98 is manual and the 00 is auto, that gives another advantage to the 98. The 00's better gears can be offset by 4.10's in the 98 for $500-600 including install.

I'm also partial to black 96-98's, though :D

go with whatever makes u happy..i have a 98 gt with an auto..bbk cai, and 2 chamber flows..i ran a best of 14.4 in cool texas weather..raced a 00 with an auto (stock) and beat him 2 out of 3 times..

8k for a 98 with 80K!!! i paid 9,500 for my 1999 with 38K miles, if I were you I would say screw both those deals, keep looking for a 99+ that is not a hassle to buy, personally I like my 5spd much more than I would an auto, but thats just me.
