99 explorer TPS on my 93?

hey all

as a follow up of a previous thread, i wanted to ask if its ok to swap the throttle position sensor from the '99 explorer engine i pulled from a junkyard and put it on my 93. jrichker said my TPS might be a little screwy, and i have the exploder TPS just sittin here....

The sensor itself should be the same, but the connector shell may be different.

I have used a jeweler's screwdriver to lift the plastic pin locks and remove the pins from Ford connectors. it takes a little time to learn how to do it, but the results are very worthwhile. You can pull the old pins out the original Mustang TPS and insert the pins from the Explorer TPS. It will lock the pins in place if you do it correctly, and they won't pull out.

If I recall correctly, the red plastic insert on the TPS connector can be removed from the front. That allows you to lift the pin locks and pull the pins and wires out from the rear.

is there a trick to getting the TPS out of the TB? Maybe mine are just really stuck, but i cant back those screws out for the life of me...

the early explorer tb's had the same connectors as the mustang, 96.5+ got a different connector. you could cut and splice, but it's honestly not worth the effort.

Thats what I did!

I got a very early '96 Explorer engine with the PCV elbow on the TB; the sensor was exactly the same the connector was different. My Mustang TPS had a dead spot in it so I used the Explorer TPS and changed the connector; it wasnt that hard to do just make sure you get the wires in the right spots.

I always had to use a drill with a phillips bit on it to get those damn screws loose, now I got smart and put some anti seize on them.
