99 v6 t-5 question

I have a tech question for everyone here. My wifes 99 v6 5spd mustang is having some tranny issues. It has about 90,000ish miles on it, its a tad high, but over all it hasn't been abused, she is normally easy on it overall. The issue is that after the tranny has warmed up, if you try to shift from 4-5, it tries to grind, but if you try to shift it VERY VERY VERY slow, and baby it in, it goes in ok. It sounds like a synco sorta issue, and only happens here and there in that situation. Anyone else have this kind of an issue, and if so is it something that can be fixed on the tranny with it in the car, or do you have to drop it? Thanks for any help on this one everybody!!! My car has the same problem and I believe that it is the synchro, which is very weak on this T-5 because of the way Reverse and 5th are set up. It isn't really a big deal to me as it just requires you to shift slowly, like you need to shift quickly into 5th anyway. My mechanic made it sound like quite a repair should I get it fixed and so I've decided to leave it alone. He didn't say for sure whether the tranny would need to be dropped or not, however.

I agree with the synchro is going out. yes, you will have to drop the tranny to change it. It is not that expensive to get it rebuilt. Ford has always used terrible synchro's, I had 2/3 go on my 87!
