Hi all. I'm looking at buying a low milage 96 Cobra, but the A/C has been taken out. It gets pretty hot in the summer here and I NEED A/C. Anyone have any idea what it would cost to replace the A/C? I'd most likely do the work myself. I think I'd need the compressor, condenser, evaporator, and drier. Looking real quick, about $600 in parts, plus hoses and fittings. Am I missing anything? Seems like a good junk yard project.

Thanks.

it depends on how much of the system is missing. if the exap core is out then you need to remove the dash too put one back in.

I haven't actually seen the car yet, should be in the next couple of days. I'll get ahold of the guy and see if he knows howmuch is missing. He bought it this way and I'm guessing the previous owner took it out to save weight, so it's probably completely gutted.

I checked out the car over the weekend. The only thing missing in the AC is the compressor.

I did notice that when the car was stopped and the steering wheel was turned back and forth, there would occasionally be a popping sound. Sounds like something binding in the steering knuckle or something. Anyone else see this or have any ideas?

And finally, any ideas on a cheap catalytic converter? I just want to throw it on to pass a visual emissions test. They use the OBDII in Ohio now. Anybody make an aftermarket catalytic appearance kit? Or anyone skate by without in Ohio? This 'Stang has been lowered 2", so not a lot of room to see anyway.

Thanks.

And one other thing. $11k for a 96 with 31,000 miles on it. Interior is perfect, 4.10's, Cobra R rims, BBK o/r pipes, Bassani exhaust, QA1 shocks, lowered 2".

Good deal?

AC delete - not a great mod

Lowering over 1.5" - really bad mod, once you go over 1.5" you have to replace MANY suspension components.

I think you should not buy it...

What are the miles on it and what is the asking price if you do not mind me asking...?
