I was due for the 20k oil change on my '06 GT, and brought it to Kirkland. Asked the dealer to replace my cabin air filter. He said it didn't have one. Two days later I visited the parts dept. at the Issaquah dealer and asked to buy a cabin air filter. He also said it didn't have one. I asked him to check his documentation. He was surprised to see that not only does it take the part, but he had some in stock. After I paid for it he told me to check the owners manual to see how to install it.

So is it me, or is this scary? These clowns are supposed to be our experts, and they don't have a clue.

What burned my ass the most was how the parts guy tried to cover himself by telling me the installation instructions are in the manual. They aren't.

All I keep thinking is, if they can't even handle a simple thing like this, how can anyone trust them for the real work.

Most parts counter people have never been techs. If you had ever been a tech, that would be VERY apparent! The ones that were techs, were probably retired from real work in the 70's. If you want a great example, call Vancouver Ford and ask for an 8.8 inner pinion bearing. They claim it doesnt exist. I had to supply a part number for them to tell me they had it.

oh now that makes more sense... Three years is nowhere near ample time to be up on one of the industries top selling vehicles and its components...

you would be suprised how many ppl dont even think about changing the cabin filter. when we try to sell them (on a car with 100+k and never been changed) they claim were scamming them and throw a fit. front counter parts person even less knowledgable considering the average person going there doesnt know their own car very well.
