Hey I'll be the first one to admit that I'm a smart-ass. I've heard that all my life and during all four years of the Marine Corp. You just leave that up to me ok ? Now both of you jacka$$es sit down and shut up and try to grasp what I'm going to say. I've never typed this info in it's entirety because it's a long post just to have my time wasted by some schmuck tell me that he's never heard of such a thing when he's had his head up his A$$ for thirty years. It's no secret. It's in those shiny looking things that give you paper cuts. I think they're called "books." So let's get a few things straight. A PVCR is a Power Valve Channel Restriction. Those are the little holes behind the PV.These lead to the main well. This is also were the metered fuel goes after passing thru the main jets. (so ya you can call them jets..if you like)The PV opens up like jumping up in 6-8 jets sizes depending on the size of your PVCR. The bigger they are the more fuel that's let in...the smaller, you get it right ? This whole thing is based on the thoery that if you open up the PVCR you can thereby reduce the size of your main jets saving gas. So you putt around town running lean and when vacuum drops, there's all the extra fuel you need. It's known as "HAVING YOUR CAKE AND EATING IT, TOO" I'm a big boy, and I like cake. You generally do this for DP because they come 5 stages richer witha a smaller PVCR. This is why when you jet it down for street use, you here "ping ping ping ping''. So you jet up the backs. And this is why some clueless jackasses run a 13-16 point spread from front to rear. Guess what WRONG,WRONG.
Lets say for S and G's the leanest jet you can run is a 64 and the thing runs like a champ at the track with a 69.
Jet Size
A=Pir2
A= .0038
.0035 is half of the diameter given by holley for a jet number 69.
I will not go into detail on how to get the PVCR because this is going to be a post that's already long enough. Let's just go with your usual PVCR size for a DP.
.040. These computations are done for one jet and one side of the PVCR.Half of .040 is
A=Pi x .020 squared
A=.00126
Add the two together and you get .0506 which is the total area of fuel flow on one throttle bore. After A=Pir2 for you new jet, subtract that from you total area and you get
.0186....divide that by PIE!!!! and you have R squared. THIS IS YOUR MAGIC NUMBER!!!!!!! you new PVCR need to be .048 in diameter. Now you have the best MPG AND the best track perfomance in one mild street mannered carb. There you have it, It has now been broken down Barney style for you. Now I don't have all the answers by any means, nor do I claim to. There are plenty of people in here that know more about cars than I do for sure( this may even include D.hearne), but I promise I'll be the first to say " Dude that beats the s&$! out of me." But you will never see me chime in with my 2 cents if I have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about, and be rude on top of that. I like coming in here and BSing with people, but someone always wants to step on someone else's crank because they think they know what they're talking about.I just thought it was funny you've been working on these things longer than I've been alive and I knew it and you didn't. No big deal, but you gave me both barrels with no idea. This is a well know secrect in the forced induction world as I read it and recomended. And is one of the many steps taken to change a gas carb into an ALCOHOL carb. As for GApony, good for you, I see you also have a dictionary,and are another person who thinks it's also fun to correct people because they aren't good at anything else. But you can still use MY SECET FORMULA. That way when someone asks, you can say "Yeah I've used one of those dang punchy things with the buttons for numbers." And if you feel like comin' down south a little and I'll meet you and I'll show you how to use Pi at the track. And bring small bills, I don't give change. As I said before, it's no secret. I just read.
So for both of you, a suggestion. Due to the recent gas price jump I suggest you use this tip and use it well grasshopper. And use the money you save to buy a clue, or some manners.

I wonder if he has ever opened an engineering textbook. Pi is a magical number used in more places than he ever could imagine.


As for the Marine comment, I'd say if you can't take a little ribbing, then, you need to get a life.
