Yeah, this kid gets an "E" for effort, definitely. But it sounds like there are a few bugs to work out:

"well I bet you guys are all wondering how it did on its first drive... how fast really is the worlds fasest turbo I6 68 mustang? actually I got more of a thrill moving the electric wheelchair at publix 15 feet well I have some kind of fuel problem, I dont know what exactly it is but I have fuel at the filter but it backfires through the carb under a load and accelerating... I got it to about 30 in the parking lot and then when I let off there it was, psssssst, it was awesome... and my exhaust is rather quiet... and tomorrow I work from 4 to 7:30 which stinks... they love making me work daytime hours or hours just after I get off school... oh well in the end it should be worth it... the only thing I can come up with was maybe I am having the old fuel evaporating problem... it get amazingly hot under there.... I will see aout setting the level up and I did get it to idle o.k. it was just that it was cold I am thinking... ummm so ya anyone got any Ideas?"

Wow.. the manifold+turbo placement makes it super easy to route right back into the carb. Thats awesome if he ever gets the bugs worked out... for some reason I'm not sure if he has a carb thats happy with positive pressure...

WTF are with his wheels though

You can't possibly imagine what it's like to be 52 yrs old, married 20 yrs, kids in college or headed there, $5000 in bills every month, job I hate but can't ever quit, and to consider the possibility of being that age again. Wow. You take the lottery, just make me 19 again!

Not a knock at all. All I did was quote the guy, thinking maybe someone on this board might have some useful ideas. No, my hat's off to this kid, totally.

That's really cool. I would love to turbo my '66.

This reminded me of an article in the March '06 Car Craft, so I went and found it.
'63 Falcon Futura
250ci inline 6 with a Garrett TO4 turbo
350hp @ 4800rpm
11.85@110.55mph

Pretty cool read and a nice looking car. They mentioned fordsixparts.com and fordsix.com in the article and said they're going to start selling the special turbo manifold to other people.

cool. I've always had thoughts of turboing a 300ci 6 to put in a truck, I don't think a 300 would fit in a mustang. The long stroke would make for a serious torque monster.

Being different is cool. Tell him to get an LM-1. It's leaning out an he'll be replacing a head gasket in no time if he keeps it up. Mine was doing this in the beginning. But at least I could see it with an air fuel ratio meter. It's a holley, so it'll be an easy fix if he does his research. (as long as his pump is big enough.)

Haha, P.S. I m pretty sure it's been done, and if he wan't the self proclaimed title, I think he needs at least 12's to compete. Like it though

It was the 2nd to last Car Craft I got. I checked their site and the article wasn't up there yet. I guess it's too recent. I'll see about getting it scanned...

Ok, I know I'm gonna get flamed for this but.....

I was thinking since everyone puts V8's into 240z's (which I will be doing in a few more years) that it would be kewl to put a turbo datsun 280z motor into a I6 mustang. It would be an interesting novelty item for sure....
