Adjusting lifters - TDC? Help!

Ok, Just got the heads on my buddys 90 5.0 after a valve job and machining.

We did not set the engine to TDC, so How can I tell by the lifters on the #1 cylinder when I am on the TDC. I need to adjust all the lifters, and I allready have the pattern for that.

pull the #1 plug out and get the piston up on compression stroke. Check the crank pully for 0 deg

Rotate the harmonic balancer to "0", if both lifters are in the closed position, you are at TDC of the compression stroke. If the exhaust lifter is open, you are on the exhaust stroke. This is all provided your balancer hasn't spun at all.

I think its easier to turn the crank until roughly half a turn past when the exhaust valve closes, then adjust the preload for that cylinder. Goes pretty quickly when you've done it a few times
