So to the point. If I install a timing chain what is the benefit of installing on the advance 4 degrees slot. I believe it's 4 might be more or like 4 to 8.

Now I understand the timing events. And can read a cam card. But is there that much to gain by advancing the cam??? And will it lower the piston to vavle clearance???

I have been doing it wrong this whole time

Depends on the cam and depends on the rest of the build. Otherwise it is a pretty open ended question that leaves a lot of speculation.
As a general rule, advancing the camshaft brings the power band down in the rpm range and retarding the cam moves the power band up higher in the rpm range.
Is that the case in your application? Who knows.
If you have "normal" or "average" PTV clearance with the cam installed "straight up" then I doubt that you would have any issues with it advanced or retarded 4*.

Thanks for the reply. I never understood why ppl wanted to do this. But if it moves the power band I understand that. Thanks
