Advantages of Port & Polish on intake

I just bought a used stock 2.3 cylinder head and a stock intake. I am going to take the head to the machine shop and get a bunch of performance increasing machine work done to it (roller cam, port&polish, air flow modifications, oversize valves etc.) and the guy I bought it from had an intake as well that I figured I could do some work to to potentially increase power some more. My questions here are what exactly are the pros of a port & polish job on an intake? I'm assuming that it is to increase power. If I am right, how much is power increased by? Also, how much if any does it effect your fuel economy? Any other tidbits of information about port & polish jobs or anything else to do with an intake that you may want to throw my way would be appreciated.

James, the advantage is better airflow which = more power. It should effect mileage enough to notice either way. Do a search for ported or gutted intakes to find more info.

So would he not mean roller rockers? The cam part is what puzzles me, he cannot take the heads in for a roller cam it is not in the head, maybe he just included that is what he plans on doing also, but I was confused.
 
I would probly do a search on this since but here is a little B.s I think about it ;) I would think if its going to be a N/A or Nitrous 2.3L that gutting the upper intake would hurt you more than help you. No runners = less low end TQ and high end HP while long runners = Low end TQ and mid range HP. Thats a rough idea so don't qoute me on it. Probly the thing I would do is clean up any casting lines in the runners and port match it to a gasket. Now the head ports needs to be bigger than the intake ports that bolt to the head. Also you don't want anything that has fuel flowing through to be real smooth from what I've read. So don't go pass 80 gritt paper and becareful since aulminum is real soft you could take more off than what you want before you know it. Here is a link that may help you out and have fun ;)
