I have a cobra intake, stock cam, stock heads, 3.73 rear, t5
I was thinkin of getting some AFR heads and using my stock cam until i buy a new shortblock (+ blower) and get a custom cam when i do the blower.

What kind of RWHP and TRQ numbers do you think I can achieve with afr heads, cobra intake, and stock cam? I would be using a tweecer to tune.

I looked in your sig and didn't see supporting mods like
tb/ maf, inj's etc

The heads have nice potential but with none of that stuff,
stock cam, and that intake ...........

I feel pretty confident the power will fall off rather quickly

I'd guess 260 to 280 rwhp

ive thought about this combo seeing as its the most budget combo for me. few others have done just head swaps and they seem to be pretty happy with the results. i imagine it just moves the entire powerband up but being pretty similiar

I remember seeing not too long ago somebody on here made very close to 300rwhp with AFR heads and a stock cam. I don't remember any other details....Maybe you can find it with a quick search.

I've heard of some people getting good results from retarding(I think thats it) the stock cam about 4 degrees.

A good set of heads will still make pretty good power even with a weak cam. However the nicest cam in the world won't make good power with weak heads.

i have a set of longtubes waiting to go on with the heads, also i would most definately get injectors, but wonder if i can keep stock maf and tbody till i get supercharger so i can more correctly get a proper maf/tbody when i decide on the FI that im gonna run

Hell no. The 94-95 cam is even crappier then the 87-93 cam. I think they just made it lame so that it would idle good at 600 RPMS with our finicky computers. I think its a piece of crap. That being said, you can squeeze some more power out of it if you retard it 4 degrees.

For some Forced Induction Combos ... the stocker can be ... OK

For most NA Combos ... the stocker is not all that great IMHO
so
I gotta go with Adam on this one

The 4 degree retard thing ......

I wouldn't say ... it won't make more power
but
I would say ... it will shift the band up more than make power

A cam, is not just a cam, especially when talking NA

A cam that is well matched to the rest of the combo
will enhance the combo

If its not all that well matched, you get, not all that well results

I believe in that kind of thinking so much
I paid good, hard earned money ... to ensure that would happen

Can you keep the stocker in a NA combo ... Sure
but in most cases ... its gonna cost you a bit of power

However, with the stock cam you probably wouldn't even need a tune with heads and intake/bolt ons. Should still idle perfectly. Mine idles bad...but it sounds amazing and thats half the battle

Everone allways wants to put a cam in a stock 5.0, then post a thread "WHICH CAM!!!"

All I meant is, there are a LOT better cams out there than the stock , is the stock cam the weak point in a 5.0 NO way. The heads and intake are definantly the weaker points. But I agree a cam would definatly give you lots of power (close to the 300 rwp) if you get a better intake. A edelbroke preformer rpm is a much better intake than the cobra. So if your looking to get to 300 rwhp with that intake and a stock cam it would be a mericle, with the combo you selected you prbobly will be around 250 hp at the wheels.

Pretty happy with my setup. I did the heads first and then the intake. The power band moved up with the intake swap. It pulls all the way to over 6k rpm. Stock cam has worked well for me so far. No need to tune with Tweecer or anything else.

I have thought about slapping a stock fox cam into mine. I haven't been that happy with it since the cam/motor swap. Once I get the 4.10s and intake maybe it will be better.

why not just buy a blower cam and run it for the time being. I know they have not the best duration but if the S/C is near in the future just get it now so you don't have to open the engine up again.

Everybody has good points to make here

I guess I just assume most peeps think like I think
and
I really do know better
and
Those who think differently ... I don't think that makes them wrong

But for me... and ... how I think

I spent a good bit of time, effort, and money planning and building my GT

I never once thought about putting forth that kind of effort
without
Doing likewise with the tune

I saw the tune no different than all the other parts I needed
to make my desired plans of 300rwhp with all systems in place
and near stock like drivability come to fruition

A combo without a cam and tune is not wrong
but
IMHO ... Its gonna fall a bit short without em

That's very zen, Grady! If you could get to higher rpm with the cam events retarded enough, the combination will result in a higher RPM peak, which could squeeze out a couple hundred more RPMS, and because RPM is in the top of the horse power equation... more RPM = more horsepower all else being equal?

you will gain low end power by advancing it 4*, or like adam and grady said you can retard it 4* to get more top end, But with the work involved with messing with the cam, IMO it would be a waste of time to just take apart the whole front of the engine to maybe get 10 hp, for $160 you can get a tfs1 cam and probably get triple the power. SO lets ASSUME (lol.) he pays some one to retard the cam or does it himself he will probably be disappointed.
