Aftermarket Fan + cooling resevoir placement?

Earlier today, my belt driven fan decided to go, busting my radiator, shroud, and putting a nice size dent in the hood. So I'm done with mechanical. Time for electrical.

What is the electric fan of choice, and where is it that you guys relocate the cooling resevoir to? Any pics would be lovely.

You can almost use any electric fan, doesn't have to be an aftermarket piece. Many, many cars, especially mid 90's and imports have electric fans. I used the fan from a cavalier, and if by resevoir you mean overflow tank, I mounted min on the passenger side fender area. Ofcourse my engine bay has been quite modified so i don't know if you have the space there.

I have quite a bit of space with the short K&N over there. I have a temp electric fan, which isn't even 1/2 the size of the radiator. I only plan on driving it to and from work, which is 10 mins each way, until I get a bigger fan.

And yes I did mean overflow tank. I tried one from advanced, it was roughly $10, was so crappy the heat from my MAC shorties melted the top.

I just used scrapped cars as donor pieces. I believe I took my overflow tank from an escort or something of that ilk.

If you truely want a performance aftermarket electric fan thent that is what you want. However they are pricey, but you do get what you pay for. You could also go to a scrap yard and find the largest electric fan you can and mcgiver it in. If you do that, the best thing to do is order a thermostatic switch. You get power to the switch, whch has a sensor you place in the radiator fins, and you program the switch to turn the fan on when the heat reaches a per determined point set by you.

i am using a taurus 3.8 fan, with stock overflow bottle and a DC contoller on it. the overflow bottle is kinda rigged on there cause it is a tight fit in between the fan shroud and the battery tray. if i could move the fan over a little farther, it would fit flush and look better. but the radio bracket and lower screw seems to doing fine for now.

Not trying to thread jack, but, What years of the taurus 3.8 fans work or are they all the same? I noticed the newer taurus' have 2 fans, would these 2 be better than 1? Also i heard alot about the mark viii fan, what year mark viii? thanks :SNSign:

Instaead of the Canton overflow, the stock fits there nicley also..

I went for the Canton piece too. It has less countours and it is easy to use washers or spacers to give yourself some more room to work around the fan if needed.

When I took out the old clutch fan, I ended up buying an overflow tank from summit for 12 bucks or so and mounting it on the front of the passenger side wheel well. Plenty of space over there. I got the blue one and I think I have been asked a hundred times if it's a NAWS bottle!

Definately go with a taurus fan if you can find one easily, fit nice and pull more air that stock mechanical, at least in my expierience. As for the overflow I would recomend poking around at a wrecker, I found mine for like 2 bucks and works awesome. Even have some pics,

I just drilled a couple holes in the factory overflow where the bolts go through, and ziptied it up. Works perfect.. Here's a pic...

I use an sn95 fan and I made some brackets myself and put the stock over flow in the stock location. Works great

i'm running a mezier 300 series elec H2O pump. all the factory brackets, heater hoses and what not still hook up to it.

you can still run a mechanical pump no problem. i just have an elec cause i had the money and wanted something a little different for a everyday street car.

how much? and was it hard to hook up?

a little pricey at about $375. i think they are like $425 now. simple to hook up, just two wires. only thing i had to do was grind the A/C bracket so it would clear the top of the pump.
