i have been looking at getting an air/fuel ratio to go in my a-pillar pod, reason being i would like to have a better idea if i am running rich or lean with the predator installed. anyone have one of these or know how and what they are wired to.....also are they accurate? thanks in advance

they are only accurate if you have wideband o2 sensors..

non-widebands are only accurate near stochiometric (sp.) 14.7.1 ratio.. this is the best ratio for emmisions and economy at part throttle.. at wide open throttle the ratio is not at 14.7.1 more in the 13.1 range and the sensor is not accurate at all for that.. thats why the PCM ignores the o2 sensors are WOT and goes open loop...

It ties in with 3 wires negative, positive, and control wire to oxygen sensor. You can trace the oxygen sensor back to the main engine wiring harness plug and tie it in there. Go ahead and get a haynes service book it will give you all the wiring color codes and make your life easier :nice:

Basically, you will have a light show in your car. they are only worthwhile (as stated above), if you have a wideband sensor in your car. It'll look great for chicks tho, they love light shows (hehe neon punch)

could you tell me about this wideband sensor? what is it, do you just replace your regular o2 sensors with it? where do you get them?

i bought a autometer phantom a/f gauge it's not reading accurate someone told me they arent very accurate but im not sure.. mine doesnt even work right any more.. i dont think. what should it do exactly should the lights blink back and fourth or stay still

as i stated above you need widebands for the gauge too be accurate.. and they are pricey...

Why would I install the more accurate plain jane Wide band gauge and take out my nite rider gauge that is just mad talk

When you get on it WOT it will go to the green side when you are not it will go back and fourth from red to green depending on Air fuel readings.

your oxygen sensor could be broken-indicating a lean condition.

As for the quality/usefulness of the non-wide band gauges I see it like this.
If your ratio is on you can check the gauge now and they and observe the pattern that it indicates. If the pattern changes or stops alltogether you know something is wrong (not that it only reads one side). If you need a gauge to monitor you a/f ratio for tuning after mods you want the wide band $400 setup.
I have a non w/b installed after my tune it swings constantly.
Yes power and ground and you can find left o2 sensor wire (red on a 1998) up by the battery in a wiring harness. You need to identify your wire color and follow the route from the o2 sensor to confirm that its the same. The gauge will probably also have a wire for back lighting. connect that to dask light wire.
