they are only accurate if you have wideband o2 sensors..

non-widebands are only accurate near stochiometric (sp.) 14.7.1 ratio.. this is the best ratio for emmisions and economy at part throttle.. at wide open throttle the ratio is not at 14.7.1 more in the 13.1 range and the sensor is not accurate at all for that.. thats why the PCM ignores the o2 sensors are WOT and goes open loop...

It ties in with 3 wires negative, positive, and control wire to oxygen sensor. You can trace the oxygen sensor back to the main engine wiring harness plug and tie it in there. Go ahead and get a haynes service book it will give you all the wiring color codes and make your life easier

Basically, you will have a light show in your car. they are only worthwhile (as stated above), if you have a wideband sensor in your car. It'll look great for chicks tho, they love light shows (hehe neon punch)

could you tell me about this wideband sensor? what is it, do you just replace your regular o2 sensors with it? where do you get them?

When you get on it WOT it will go to the green side when you are not it will go back and fourth from red to green depending on Air fuel readings.

i think my gauge is broke. i just sits on red.. i check my wires and they are good. it used to go back and fourth at idle now it sits on red and then disappears for a minute. i think its about time to get it out

your oxygen sensor could be broken-indicating a lean condition.

As for the quality/usefulness of the non-wide band gauges I see it like this.
If your ratio is on you can check the gauge now and they and observe the pattern that it indicates. If the pattern changes or stops alltogether you know something is wrong (not that it only reads one side). If you need a gauge to monitor you a/f ratio for tuning after mods you want the wide band $400 setup.
I have a non w/b installed after my tune it swings constantly.
Yes power and ground and you can find left o2 sensor wire (red on a 1998) up by the battery in a wiring harness. You need to identify your wire color and follow the route from the o2 sensor to confirm that its the same. The gauge will probably also have a wire for back lighting. connect that to dask light wire.

wideband o2's are oxegen sensors that are acurate over a broad spectrum.. where the stock o2's on any car are only accurate around stochiometric 14.7.1 and are very inaccurate at WOT where the air fuel ratio is more in the 12.1-13.1 range...

i thought they were only really needed in supercharged applications.
