I just finished changing out my steering rack. While I was taking it out and putting it back in, obivously, the steering shaft got moved around and pulled on a bit.

Now that I start the car back up, the AIRBAG light is flashing. I unhooked the battery for an hour and tried again, still flashing in this sequence:

blink, blink, blink, short pause, blink, blink long pause

then it starts again. What does this mean? The airbag has never been deployed, does it just need to be reset? Thanks in advance.

the code that is flashing is for a broken clock spring.

Do yourself a favor a remove the fuse for the airbag. Light will flash a different code, but atleast the airbag wont randomly go off.

I had the same thing happen to me. And I hear the clock springs are not fun to replace...

Hmm, I guess I'll pull the fuse for now. onefstsnake is that how you're driving around right now, with the fuse pulled?

My car is on blocks for a while, so maybe I will try to get some information on changing the clock spring...

yup im fuseless. lol

The air bag light still flashes, but its a different code. #13 which pretty much means its not getting voltage.

Honestly I wouldnt want the airbag to go off, even in a crash.
The 1st Generation airbags were not very forgiving, hence newer cars having Gen. 2 airbags...

I might have to get it fixed before I can pass inspection though...
But in VA its legal to remove the bulb from the instrument panel in order to pass inspection... :nice:
