all experts on t-5 swaps please enter.need help

ok fellas heres my problem.i drove a 94gt home and completely stripped it.using almost everything on my 90 vert.this is the kicker.90 model is aod.94 was 5 spd.i was told i can use the 94 5 spd as long as i used the 94 bellhousing because of a 1/2 inch difference in input shaft.i need all the help i can get as i would like to start my swap tomorrow.by the way the 94 was a rebuilt title that had literally been hit by a train at one time.so i didnt part out a good car.

Jeremy, would you be willing to sell me the clutch pedal out of that car? I don't need the whole assembly, just the pedal itself. It's held in with a 18mm nut and takes a few seconds to pull off. Let me know.

As for using your 94 T5, you can but since it's a little longer with the 94 bellhousing, you'll prob need a shorter driveshaft. I know when I had a fox, my D/S was pretty snug as it was. I'll bet you'd need to remove at least 1" to make it work.

Don't forget, please PM me about that pedal! Thanks!

alright, dont quote me on this since i have never done it myself BUT, i was similarly trying to use a 90 t-5 for my 94, i couldnt find a rebuilt 94 for the right price around here, so i was gonna take my buddy's 90 t-5 and replace both the input shaft, t/o bearing retainer, and input shaft bearing with the 5/8" longer input shaft so i could use the stock 94 bellhousing and clutch fork from a 94. the only things you really need to watch out for ( as far as i know) is that the gearset is the same and similarly the tooth count of 4th gear is the same which would mean that the counter-shaft is similar and would therefore work. however this is if you are trying to replace the input shaft to make it work. if you are just trying to use the 5/8" longer 94 t-5, it may or may not work. information that i got from www.bieberfever.com was that if i was to buy a t-5 from them, it would be the fox style with the shorter shaft and i would be able to bolt it right up to my 94 with using the fox bell and clutch fork regardless of the difference in length when it comes to my driveshaft..which means its possible that the difference in length is so minute that it wont matter. however, i dont know if this is true, or if the guy was just trying to make a sale because i have heard countless bad things about them. one thing that he did warn me about though, is never to use a spacer, or to modify a driveshaft, the balance and angle at which it meets the output of the transmission, and the rearend could be seriously damaged and could otherwise cause a bad vibration. Yet again, it is possible that things would bolt right up, i just dont want to give you false hope about something that has so many avriables. One guy that I have been talking to is 5spd GT since he has done exatly what you want to do, however by replacing the input shaft from a 90 into a t-5 from a 95. this would probably be your best bet to avoid problems down the road. good luck, give 5spd gt a PM if you have questions, or give me a PM if you want, i work a lot, but ill try to answer your questions as quickly as i can.

OR... he can sell that ultra rare 94/95 T5 and have plenty of money to purchase the correct and plentiful 87-93 style T5. That's what i would do. I've always used Fox T5's in my SN95's because I refuse to pay a high price for a transmission that's 3/8" longer and NOTHING ELSE!

I think making the 94/95 T5 work in a Fox is more work than it's worth. Also, I wanted to point out that if a driveshaft shop modifies your driveshaft (shortens it for instance) nothing bad will happen to it because they usually have a truing device of some sort and they will balance it perfectly! Just my .02

One more thing, I've always ran my fox T5's in my SN's without a spacer and never had a problem. Funny thing is most that use the spacers get vibes!!

I have a 90 fox t-5 in my car right now. I was nervous about the same things but for nothing. My 95 d/s worked, I just reused it. The bell housing is off a 90 fox as well, compensates for the shorter input shaft. The only problem I saw was that a small bracket had to be welded to the front of the tranny crossmember to bolt the tranny to, since the tranny is physically shorter, the bracket will be needed. Besides that, everything else worked fine off a 90.

here's one for ya... i am putting in a rebuilt 94 t-5 right now into my 94 vert, and my tranny will not bolt up to the crossmember from the AT... are there different crossmembers , or does it need to be flipped(which only minutely helps out, and the only reason that it would be at all possible (not a clean fit) is that the trans maount is rubber and moves like a B****! any thoughts, HELP!!! also, is there any visual way to tell the difference between a fox bell and an sn bell? im thinking maybe the junk yard gave me a fox bell, and i got stuck with a fox t-5?? i dont think so though because the reverse switch on the rebuilt trans was not for a fox harness, and it was labeled for a 94-95 v-8 and also, the clutch fork fits fine whereas a fox one didnt... any help?, thanks, kyle

Ok..here goes.

The reverse switch is the same between the Fox and SN T5's. They are nearly identical transmissions except for the input shaft and bearing retainer are a little longer on the SN unit.

The bellhousing from a 94/95 will say "5.0" on it near the top.

As for the crossmember, it is the exact same peice between 5 speed and AODE cars. What you are probably missing is the T5 specific hanger plate which offsets the mount back a little so it will line up with the crossmember. The AODE hanger plate only has 2 holes in it, the bolts just go right through mount, plate and into the tranny. The T5 plate has 2 holes and 2 more holes with welded nuts so the plate bolts to the tranny then the mount gets bolted to the plate.

The plate shouldn't be hard to find because you can use one from a 5 speed V6 also.
