Aluminum Heads Expected Gains

Yea I already have a Stage 3 clutch on it now. I was planning on upgrading to 3.55's as soon as i get home too. But i wasn't thinking about the trans yet. I might as well slap a TKO600 under there while im doing the suspension and wait for power adders later. Within a couple of years i want to upgrade to a 351W and know im going to need a beefier trans for that. So i might as well get that out of the way now. After suspension/rear end/trans, i can focus all my time and money on the 351 and have a then have a nice roller that it is ready to slip into and be ready to roll out.

Geezus-did he say he was planning to use one of those? Ouch...

I was really referring more to the "organic" parts...but, I did spit third out of my T5 before...

Actually i was. Either a TKO600 or a T56. Haven't really decided yet.

I know a TKO can take about everything that 351W can throw at it, but idk about the T56.

after the 351 swap, i plan on hitting the track pretty often in it and want a transmission i know can hold up.

and i work hard over here doing my job so i can enjoy it when i come home. Mustangs are my passion so i'm going to build it to enjoy and to make it last

Gotcha-the T56 should take a pretty good bit of abuse, I've seen them live behind sprayed LS1s, and the upgraded versions behind TT Cobras...but, there are people here with more practical knowledge in both directions.

Dunno what your job is over there, but come home safe man-I'll be goin on our next rotation probly...

Yea once i get home i'll start looking into it a little more and see what's available around my area.

I'm originally field artillery. I volunteered for this deployment so i came over runnin convoy security for a transportation unit that helped with the final push out of Iraq. That ended in December and now over in Afghanistan doin any and every detail that pops up.

Roger that. can't wait to get home. my R&R rolls around in 18 more days. flying into Washington DC, picking up my new Stang, and driving it 6 hours home. God i can't wait. these last few weeks seems to be D...........R...........A............G.............G............I..............N.............G by. but my units rotation is up in April. so won't be too much longer and i'll be home for good. That is when alot of these mods are going to start happening.

so onto this future 351W build. I'd like to stay n/a, aluminum heads(heavily massaged), fuel-injected, and put 400+ to the wheels. Want to keep it a true 351 w/o boring or stroking, and have forged internals that are ready for boost if i decide to do so in the future. anybody got any input on a good H/C/I combo for this?

First and foremost, thank you for risking so much serving our country!

As far as the 351... I've dissected this a million different ways, and what I've read pretty much matches it. I've got a 351 on a stand myself. I ran them back in the 80's and loved them...but now, you can get almost the same cubes and comparable power out of a stroked 302-347. For the added weight of the 351, it's really not worth it to stay with the same cubes, ESPECIALLY if you're forking out the dough for forged internals.... If you don't want a 400+ cube engine, best bet is a 347. If you do want a 351w block, best bet is going with extra cubes(408), because it costs about the same.

Yea I've been taking my time here lately, and really reading up on different combo's and crunching numbers.
Don't want to rush into anything and waste money where I really don't need to.

The more I read, the better and better a 347 stroker looks.
Throw on some AFR 185's and a decent cam and I could easily obtain my HP goals with the right tune.

If i wish to upgrade in the future, I bet a Whipple sure would make some decent power on top of it.........
