I have been debating about having my polished under the hood stuff chrome plated. Is there any pitting or are they filled in during the plating process and I wonder if they will cut me a price break because the parts are already polished?

They should, Marc, because half the job is done. However, that's provided the surfaces are all flat. I know we can get a shine out of pieces that aren't perfectly flat, but to be chromed it needs to be worked over a bit more. Again, that's for best results. Anything can be plated and it's just a matter of what it's going to look like when it's done.

As far as pitting in the metal and minor blems, the chroming process starts with a copper layer which I do believe handles them. After that is nickel, where the luster comes from, and then the "blue" tint chrome which gives it the depth. One of these days I'm gonna get a walk-thru at the chrome shop to see everything go on. I think it'd be real cool!

I have been really leaning towards having my TFS-R intake and Incon tube with other smaller pieces plated.... Have you had any mechanical/moving parts chrome plated, like the TB, IAB?

Gotta be careful with that stuff, my mom used to run a gold plating business and it gave her a lot of health problems from the chemicals used that were claimed to be "safe"

I have the tensioner & pulley, and blower tensioner pulley chromed. Those pieces would look great chromed

Yea, it's scary to think about. I am not going to be doing any of my own work even though it'd be really cool

That's gonna look amazing..

My opinion on chrome vs. polished....well i think polished does look better, but only if it's SERIOUSLY polished, and i mean like as good as it gets, and then you have to keep it at that level. With chrome you don't have to maintain it as much as you do polished, so that's def. an advantage. If i had a show car that was driven frequently, i'd go with chrome. My only fear is that chrome flakes, and then you're screwed. You can always repolish.

Yea, replating WILL piss me off if I ever have to do it, but I don't intend on messing anything up to require that

While the intake was off I also polished the FPR:



Looks better as a whole but I still am not done w/the engine and wanted to tease you all

Hey man how do your polished pieces look among your chrome pieces?
The reason I ask is because I was looking at getting some valve covers that were chrome but I'm worried it will clash???

Look at the blower head (what you can see of it) compared to the PowerPipe. Not too bad. The IAC and all that stuff fit right in. Not as deep but nice and shiny. It's obvious they're not the same but to me it all looks great together. The intake stood out being polished because it was such a big piece and was connected to the perfectly polished high quality aluminum (and flat, lol) EGR spacer from Accufab. It just couldn't compare, whereas the chrome now looks much better.

I always had chrome valve covers and they never looked out of place.
