Annoying Drag Strip Rules

Took the stang to my local drag strip to see how the new Cal-trac traction bars and 650 Holley were working, only to find they wouldn't let me run. Even though they let me run a few months ago, guess my front wheel studs are too short for my aftermarket rims.
Guess they don't always check em, and tonight was my lucky night

Oh well, at least I was able to race my friend's 91 GT.
Managed to get a 14.5 at 96 MPH, both new records for the car.
Just put shortie headers and a H-pipe on the car last week.
Previous bests were 14.6 at 93 MPH.
Gotta love it when you can drive a friend's car faster than he can

Dodgestang,

I've got 3" studs in the back.

When I get around to longer studs in the front I might consider pulling the upper control arms off too and go with some of those roller spring perches too, while I'm at it.

Dodgestang, Do you have factory discs? I have a 68 and would like to put longer studs in my factory rotors but I dont know who makes them.They have that long knurl on them.Bob

I wouldn't ride in that car, much less allow it to race on my track. You're missing a lug nut!!! ;o)

What annoys me is that you can take a stock brand new 03 Cobra convertible, run it faster than a 13.9 and get kicked off the track because you don't have a roll bar.

why are the purpose of the long studs so ur car cant look its best before it hits the track. at what poijnt do u need those damn studs i might bether myself when the tranny gets here and with some gears.

Is the theory that if your lug nuts come loose the nuts will have farther to back off before they completely leave with the longer studs? I was always under the impression that if the stud was engaged the full length of the nut there was no possible way to gain any more clamp load with a longer stud. I'm sure there is a good reason, that's why I don't make the rules.

Wanta see some rules? Try moving up to super gas or super comp. Restraint system reweb/renew every two years. Chassis certification every 3 years. Flexplate/trans shield every 5 years, unless you happen to grind or drill on it, then its out. And the list goes on.
As far as the wheel studs, with aftermarket wheels, the lug has to protrude through the wheel 1/2 the diameter of the stud (1/2" stud, 1/4" past wheel). If the stud is only half way through, it could very easily snap the stud because of the extra load. Also, if the stud doesn't come past the lug nut, you need to run open end lug nuts or they'll make you remove one or more to verify the stud length.

EDIT: sorry, just saw youre in Phoenix. Hot dry air sucks....

Have your friend stop by and visit Tom at All Mustang of Phoenix, it's on University if I remember right..... he's a pretty good guy to deal with, or you can ask for Chuck, he's good too.(but Tom's the owner)

Nice driving though, always good when you can beat a guys time, in his own car.... lol

No worries...im 24 and have never heard that either
