Okay, I need advice...I blew out a spark plug last night and i'm trying to figure out which way to go.
1) time sert the sucker for a few hundred bucks
2) get new stock heads that have more threads
3) aftermarket heads(with cams installed)
The challenges are that however much I spend, i'm borrowing and I can't go over $1600-1800, and if I get heads, I need the cams already installed because its PITA to do cam swaps from what I understand.
Chime in...

If ya can go with some hi-po heads do it. Cams arent all that hard, you just need to make sure you dont jump a tooth on the timing chain. And since you will have everything off to remove the heads its no biggie from there. Summit Racing has Patriot Stage II heads assembled with springs for $1295. Then grab some VT blower cams and you be rockin'!!!

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but being a modular newbie I have a quick question. Does this happen on all 4.6's? Mine is an 02 with 44,000 miles on it. Next, what can be done to prevent this? I wanna try to avoid dumping money into something I can avoid. I would rather buy mods with that money. Thanks

the best way of prevention that I am aware of is too check the plug tourqe every other oil change or so.

given that you're working on a tight budget, i would have the head repaired rather than replaced. A time sert should serve you well, the people on this board that have had it done don't seem to have any problems. Besides, if you upgraded your heads and cams, you will really be pushing the limits of your shortblock. Then you have a hell of a lot more problems than you would want - paying off the heads/cams, then building a new shortblock...

Stupid design?

I'm sorry but if you can't change the plugs easily, you should't drive your mustang

Check the plugs every month or so...if your retarded to can do it in half an hour.

OR you can blow a spark plug, and buy new heads . You decide....

And for the thread starter; if your tight for money, just retap the heads for a few hundred bones. If you don't mind spending the money, go aftermarket Ford owes us for this.....BIG TIME

Is it the design that is stupid... or perhaps something else...?

Go change the plugs on a transverse mount V-6 and then get back to me.

okay here is the update....it seems that replacement heads also only have 4 threads...which sucks because mph has them for 375$$
So, I guess I time sert the ones i've got or spend big bucks for aftermarket ones????

I'm just saying having to remove the fuel rails, intake, and injectors is way to much to change the plugs or atleast check them every oil change or too.
It is stupid !!!!!!!!!!

the rumor is that you can pull the plugs without removing the fuel rails but I haven't tried it myself, except for the one that blew out ha ha ha

plugs are easy to install all you will need is a extension and swivel in 3/8" to do the job

I think a Timesert would be a good choice...

(and maybe there should be a "blown-out plug" sticky thread?)

If you're going to go the replacement route - go with ported heads. No reason to replace them with stockers when you are in a position to make a whole hell of a lot more power.

But yeah, time sert should work, haven't heard anything bad about it yet.
