anybody ever heard of doing this?

so i go over to my friends house the other day and he drives a 98 honda civic ex. he was changing the tranny fluid in it and i was like "are you putting atf or gear oil in it" hes like "my car dont take that" and then i see the container. ADVANCE AUTOPARTS MOTOR OIL 10W-30 im like wtf are you serious and then he tells me "some trannys take atf and some take gear oil but mine takes 10W-30 motor oil and thats what the computer said" i left before i could no longer hold in my laughing never heard of trannys taking motor oil

putting motor oil in a tranny is like getting negative camber with wheel spacers, it just dont make sense

Some Honda manual transmissions are designed for 10w-30.

on top of that he bought ANDAVCE AUTO PARTS OIL i mean if your not gonna put tranny fluid in it atleast put some decent oil in it and not oil that lasts for 500 miles

Yup. My 1990 civic si station car takes 10w-30 in the manual tranny. Strange but true.

I heard that oil adds 24 HP to the wheels

That isn't completely true...you have to put a big vinyl sticker on your car too...then you get the full 24hp...otherwise you only get about 5-7...

yes there are more then a few manual hondas out there that take 10w 30. Honda acutally put out a tsb about it years ago because people were putting ATF in them and the syncros were getting jacked up. I know because I used to own a civic and when the trans went out I argued with the trans shop about putting trans fluid in the new trans untill he showed me the tsb.

I've heard of that.


Some take ATF, some motor oil, some gear oil, some crisco.

yep we had a honda 5 speed tear up on us because of atf, put motor oil in it and it ran great. i know it is weird though. also if you add some vendor decals on there with your vinyls you can get like another 10hp too. lol. especially the street glow ones. i heard they give the most. and the big aero wings will cut your wind resistance in half.
