Anybody Ever Hurt A Spec Clutch?

Well, as it turns out it's not in the budget this month to buy a twin disc clutch, as much as I want it to be. Junior's birthday is coming and we need to really hump it and get his car done, and momma is on my butt to do so, along with a ton of other things that don't include my car...

A friend of mine has a RAM single setup on his shelf he told me to take. I'd have to buy a 26 spline disc for it, but that would put me back in business. I thought about it, told him it would be dumb because I'd destroy it and owe him a flywheel and pressure plate (he scoffed and called me srubborn)..."Drive your car! " he says.. "Put the clutch in!"

What are you talking about? An auto/turbo is the only way to fly .
Mat it once and lift after reaching terminal velocity.

I agree....its fun to drive a stick tho too....but for racing Auto for the win!!

I'll agree with that for drag racing. Every purpose built drag car I've had was auto. This car, however is for going fast beyond the 1/4. Then turning.

Well I got some good news. I've been waiting on some paperwork to arrive in the mail to file my taxes.. (had to file an extension, long story).. anyway, much to my surprise it arrived yesterday evening! So, I'm getting a fat return, and THAT means twin disc clutch. I was almost settled on a Mcleod, but then I read a really killer write up on the centerforce dyad.. so I need to figure out which is better for my needs. Any input appreciated!

Interested as well considering I have had great luck with the cf stuff . @84Ttop any use of these around the shop ?

Man I did a google search and came across a ctsv forum where several guys used the DYAD and they all chattered like crazy. One guy contacted centerforce who said they are not supposed to chatter, but would not replace it unless the friction surface had lost a rivet or something.. doesn't say much for centerforce.. Plus, these were guys that paid a reputable shop big bucks to install them, so they were out money there too. Yeesh. Glad I do all of my own work!

Nothing but good reviews so far though on the Mcleod rst and rxt. I'll probably spring for the rxt since it's rated for the most and I can grow into it.

That's what I was originally thinking now . As long as my cf dual friction will get me through the dyno and the summer that will be my winter upgrade

I have had quite a bit of luck with the centerforce df clutch in years past with N/A cars. I havn't seen them last too long with the blower cars though. Personally, back in the day (man I sound old right now) ok so like 2000-2001 when I had my supercharged 98 we had a lot of luck with the Mcleod clutch, Promotion had spec'd it out for me back then and it lasted a good few years behind my 500hp 2v 4.6

Thats good to know on the CF DF clutch since thats what I went with... y'all had me freaked out on them, but mostly what I read was positive except the weights could stop centering, CF told me if they did they'd replace it... 2 weeks to go till it hits the street.

I've had good luck with CF DF clutches around 3- 400 hp.. But I wouldn't trust one past that. I'm still astounded this SPEC let go on me the way it did..

I'm not. Seems there's really only two versions of the Spec 2 story out there:

It's in a niche between A) I have slightly more power than I need for an OEM B) I don't make quite enough power for a HD clutch

I fried a Hayes metallic, welded a Ram HD metallic, had obscene clutch chatter with both. After a lot of phone calls to tech support types the answer was McLeod RXT for 500hp, 5000 rpm clutch drops on slicks, none of the other brands wanted any part of the package I'm running. Post install and break-in I have a great clutch, easy peddle, clean engagement on the street and dropped my launch rpm from 5k to 3k so it hooks hard. I'm no fan boy but if I had bought one McLeod I could have saved money and wear and tear on the entire drive train. The only unknown is how long it will last but based on how things are going so far I think its a winner.

Bought it used from a racer in a bind for 900 bucks. Had to drive from Brazoria Tx to Shreveport , La. to get it, but worth it.

Welp, finally pulled together the scratch to order the Mcleod twin disc and a new ford racing billet steel flywheel from summit. I'm leaving tomorrow to go offshore fishing with my Dad and some uncles.. hopefully it's here when I return and we can get down to business! @GroverDill We're about to see how she works!
