I would like to try to figure out what kind of HP to expect form my set up but I don't know what size valves, combustion chamber numbers and flow from what appears to be stock 79 heads. Anybody help me out on this one?
some of the worst heads out there. IIRC valves are 1.78/1.45, ccs are ~60. Flow = small soda straw.
I dont know what your setup is, but theres almost no amount of work you can do to those heads to make them worth some $$$ invested in "starter set" iron aftermarket heads (GT40P, Darts/Roush, etc).
Y'all are both wrong, the cc's for those heads are 70, the largest ever for small block heads. And yes I agree they're doorstops, in stock form. But with larger valves, port work, popup pistons they could be redeemed. But with all the other better heads out there today, you'd have to ask : why?
Thats a good combo for Darts or Roush 200s. I think they would be about equivalent for your application, but perhaps someone with direct exp can comment on why theyd choose one over the other.
edit: arent the Roush 200s the same as Darts? Or am I confused....
lol, yeah I fixed that. I know the windsors are aluminum and thats great but its not really a big thing for me....right now. I would just really like to get the old heads off there for some better performing ones at low cost and thats why I was looking at the roush 200s about 800 or so dressed for a pair or if I can find the used somewhere.
Yuo'd have a better bottom end response with the 180's. With the 200's and the 280H cam, your motor will not be as responsive on the bottom end. It probably wouldn't "turn on" till about 3000 rpms. And it would pull til the stock rods you're running came out of the block.
